So, who foots the bill if Higbee crashes it? I've gotta admit, I'd be pretty nervous if my shiny new $40k scoot was being run flat out on a racetrack, no matter who was at the helm! |

Race bikes get tossed. It's part of the sport. Get over it and move on. Bikes that aren't tracked? Just street/garage queens that queef CO2 at Sonic and never see their real purpose. |

@Jdugger I have a street bike 25r I've probably had it at 8500+ rpms before for about a 30 mile stretch on the highway going 150+ I'm thinking that was pretty hard on my "garage queen" It gets its fair share of twisties but that time on the highway I'm speaking of had to be super hard on the bike it was reading 205+ coolant temps and it was only 65 degrees out plus I had serious air flow at those speeds... |

> 205oF is not hot for a liquid cooled engine. Up until I got the Flexi-Glass ram air system, I routinely hit 230F without much difficultly, in particular in the summer. The bike would go into skip-spark and run like crap. Even now, I will occasionally see 230. I saw it in sprint races this summer. And, they are only 6 laps! Even on cooler days, it's nothing to see 200. And, that's with a cooling system set up that's vastly... and I mean VASTLY better than the OEM set up, especially at speed. |

Not better, just suited to racing rather than street riding. Until you just mentioned your track experience, I'd not heard of any 1125 machines suffering overheating anywhere. Your race bike have the cooling fans Jim? |

> Your race bike have the cooling fans Jim? Nope, not now. That's part of the flexi-glass system. The flexi-glass setup is standard on a DSB-Spec 1125r, and it's what was on Eslick's bike. The 1125r in race application was prone to overheating. I actually learned about the flexi-glass setup when I was having the issue and started asking around about cooling solutions. At least two different endurance teams running 1125r bikes said something to the effect of "get the flexi-glass setup. We had no choice, ours overheated, too." It's amazing how much cooler the frame stays and how much cooler the bike runs with that set up. It's really night and day. |

I got in three track days this year and my bike actually ran cooler on the track than on the street.Air temp was between 70 and 80 degrees and coolant temp was 175 on the nose every time I finished a 20 minute session.That is with water wetter and stock cooling system. |

Jim, When you experienced the overheating at the race track, were the fans installed? If so, were they working? Same ECM control logic as with OEM ECM? |

For what it's worth, though, I've had the same issues when I had a bone stock street bike, too, stock exhaust even. The summers here are hot, and we ride the hell out of these bikes. They get hot. |

Good information to know. My experience is similar. It's one reason I prefer direct air-cooled motorcycle engines. |
