I'm in the market for a Rear Shock for track day duty. The Erik Buell Racing Showa looks like quite the deal but before investing I'm looking for recommendations from those of you running replacements shocks. If you have the Showa, are you happy with it or would you go a different direction. If you had the Showa and changed to another Rear Shock what did you change to and why? Appreciate any feedback. |

I got the Showa as part of the suspension upgrade package deal Erik Buell Racing offered a while back. For me, it was "bang for the buck". The Ohlins or even the Penske's are well regarded, and for good reason. You will pay double, though. I'm a top-third B group guy. If I were running more competitively with the A group guys, I'd likely upgrade - for now, the Showa seems to work fine. "Speed is just a question of money" |

Stirz, I definitely appreciate the value equation and I'm not surprised that the Ohlins and Penske are better choices but it's hard to beat the value. Almost half the cost. I don't know how much you weigh but I'm 180 in gear and would appreciate recommendations for starting points for Compression and Rebound Damping for the Showa. |

Can do - won't be home until late tonight. Will count clicks tomorrow. I'm about 20-30 lb heavier, so you'll need to adjust accordingly. |

General: Compression: 8 clicks from full in (two turns counterclockwise from full clockwise position) Rebound: 25 clicks (counterclockwise) from full clockwise setting (facing toward top of shock). I think it's 8 clicks per turn, but not completely sure on that. |

How much improvement is there when upgrading a rear shock ? I've never upgraded one before on my bikes, but do find the stock one on my R going soft once it gets hot, was going to refurb it this winter but maybe I'll invest in a upgraded one ! |

I was thinking about upgrading the shock as well, but after getting a baseline suspension setup done by the resident track tech I'm going to hold off for a few. He noticed plenty of life left in the shock, for one, and noted that the front was actually the end losing its sparkle! The showa looks like a great deal. There is also AST stuff -I had their gear on my M3 and it was great. Plus the owner races an 1125. |

Stirz... Thanks for the reference points. Installing the shock tomorrow. VIR Sunday and Monday so I'll have a chance to dial-in while I'm there. |
