I'll start with some thanks to BW members, ebay, American Sport Bike (thanks Al) and Lafayette...Basically for the last couple of months or so, I have been working on my lunches and staying a couple of hours after work to get this old girl back on the road. First some before pics of when she showed up and I decided to buy her... She was cosmetically challenged and had some bad part aka broken parts when I took her in. I thank the shop for allowing me to keep her here and using shop equipment to make the work "easier". So here are some of the wonky plastic tupperware parts...bad paint and blistered decals Did I mention she had a broken front engine mount? So I ended up getting a new mount...I really wanted to take more step by step pics, but all I had handy was my cellphone and 40 minutes is pretty short to really get work done...so sorry up front... new front Isolator and cylinder head mount...mounted Bad rear isolators...this was a PIA new ones in with a new belt since I already had them out...no sense going back to replace the belt later and go through it again: Time to get the front off to replace front brake rotor and replace fork seals: New rotor: Fork seals: Custom fork seal driver made from PVC pipe cut in half and zip tied together...what can I say...it worked Time to open the primary to replace the shifter detent (upgrade) and check the clutch. Prior to 2001 HD used a "grenade" plate in the clutch...I wanted to remove it so that I would not have issues down the road. Once I got the clutch apart, I discovered that a previous owner put in a Barnett race clutch...either his grenade plated exploded or he did preventive maintenace...SCORE!! Yes, that is another special tool to lock primary sprocket and clutch basket...$3 brass door hinge... Got to upgrade my shifter linkage from the rattle shake shake shake boomerang: old style new and improved Some basic spark chasing and replacing my clutch and speedo cables...I got all my gauges to work again! Ran new oil lines, re-did the rear brake line (got rid of the hard lines), added a Works Performance rear shock, sorted out the carb, tweaked the timing (installed a new plate) and finally paint. Free stuff....BMW S1000RR turn signals and home made fender eliminator kit... So here she is...got her done yesterday on my B-day and took her for a nice ride. I think I'm going to keep the "old grey mare"...
