-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ I took the Buell to my first track day. What an experience. I quickly got rid of my chicken strips and was using the entire tire. I hit the rev limiter a few times (never done that before). Wheelies in second and third. 95 MPH on the straight stretch. The Buell is a great track bike, I never had a problem. This is the same bike that I went to Mexico on and nearly 300 miles of that was on dirt. There was one other Buell there, a tuber with an old rider, about my age. I couldn't keep up with him. I'm hooked, I never really knew the capabilities of my bike until I took it out on the track. I had my ass kicked by two Ducati chicks, but they were good looking so I don't care. I'll be prepping the bike this winter for the next track day. I'll need a better fly screen, crash protection and slimmer tail section/seat. -------------------- 2010 R1200GS |

Looks like you had a great time on the track. How do you go about planning a trip to Mexico? I would love to take a trip south. I live in Texas and the border is within a short distance of me, but finding a group ride has proven difficult. |

Congrats. It's addicting. My friend does track days on his BMW 1200GS. There's a lot more adventure touring guys giving track days a shot. |

I just had the uly out in the twisties for the first time and found myself griding the pegs a bit - did you fit rearsets or anything for the track day? Just based on my quick twisty jaunt it seems that the uly wouldn't have the clearance for a solid track effort (I was hanging off moderately, but there was room to get off the bike a little more). Stiffer suspension settings would help. I'm only a little stiffer than the owner's manual recomendations (1 more turn preload in the rear, 1/4 turn more damping on all damping adjusters). |

I had never ground a peg until I did the track day. I found that I was using all the tire at that point. I could have hung off more but I think I was close to the limit (at least my limit). I wanted some pictures of the Ducati chicks but I didn't want to appear as a dirty old man/stalker so I passed. Maybe next time. There was a BMW 1200GS there (I have one too). It was the riders first time there and he felt out of place. He was more of an adventure rider, he left early. If you ever have the chance to do this go for it. I had a great time and the people were fantastic. No attitudes, no smart asses. It was great. |

Cool. I think I'll have to see what touches after the pegs. On the street I didn't push it much past the point where the pegs just started to scrape as I didn't want to drag a hard part and lever the wheel off the ground. Also it was 40 degrees and drizzling. If it's just the pegs I'll grind away at them or fit XB-not-X pegs which should give another inch of clearance. |
