Just wondering if anyone knew where to get the rubber inserts for the forward muffler mount on an X1, or if the dogbone service bulletin was worth the extra moolah?, any help would be greatly appreciated. Josh, P.S. I have checked with the HD dealership and they say that the part is discontinued and suggested I get the service bulletin for the dogbone and VR relocater, but it was like $170 |

They are a sponsor on this board www.twinmotorcycles.nl They are in Europe, so shipping is high, I ordered several extra sets last time I ordered to help drop the cost of the freight, then sold them here for what I had into them. |

Id get in on that to help with freight. I need a pair as well. Previous owner left out the spacer and the bolt was loose. It vibrated almost all the way through the sleeve. I made a spacer and haven't had any real issues but might as well replace them since one is moderately chowdered up. PM me if you want to share some shipping costs. Gmaan03 I would be interested in possibly 2 sets of those sets for the Y-mount when they are available as backups. |

When I ordered from Twin it was suprisingly quick as well, just using their postal service, maybe a week. My credit card did charge me a small fee for the foreign transaction, I think it was less then 50 cents. Great service from them though. |

This what we're talking about? If so do you know a ballpark figure for them. I'd probably be interested in one. |

I have 2 sets in Rochester ny. One set has a used spacer with a scuff. Both rubber sets unused. Email me for pics if interested. I can mail tomorrow. These are leftover and came from twin in Netherlands. I also have the original L mount. $20 plus shipping is about what I paid to get them here. Will sell both and accept offer on the mount. these are easily made at home. get, borrow, a hole saw with an inner dimention a smidge larger than the bushing hole. find some dense rubber and cut out some "doughnuts", then stack them togeather to get the proper thicknes. drill the center hole and install. i just did this and its working great at a cost of 0 bucks. |

Making them sounds like my time is worth more then the 20 bucks to buy them, unless I allready happened to have a peice of rubber sitting around, then still just a maybe. That may last longer though. |

I'm in the process of making them out of polyurethane spacers, kinda subscribing to the philosophy of mounting that thing as rigid as I can get it. Josh |

thejosh, downside of that is that the vibes gotta go somewhere. the rubber mounts dampened them. my fear is that the header studs might get to much stress and break. i could be wrong but a little parinoia goes a long way. |

Not to worry, Psykick. The header studs are not subject to lateral stress from the muffler mount. They're only hurt if something tries to pull them out, like a broken isolator or a boot to the air cleaner box. What happens if you fix the muffler rigidly to both the frame and motor is the welds on the header itself fail and it cracks into pieces. Little sections of curved head-pipe with nice square corners. I have one I can post photos of if you wish to see it. |

thanks for the info. iv been sweating the studs breaking for a while now. used to work on radial aircraft engines and exh. stud replacement was a constant job. having the header crack sounds like less fun tho. all the shaking n rattling of a big motor is sure worth it. |

My first header was badly welded at the factory. If you bolted it up firmly to the exhaust studs, the mounting holes didn't line up. I set all the bolts in place with the header loose and then tightened them evenly. Worked for about a month. Then the header cracked and disintegrated. |
