If you've read the Maxton 2004 thread in the Quick Board. You know I'm going to Maxton this Spring. I need some advise. How do you safety wire the rear axle? Here's the link to my question. Thanks in advance. |

Does it need to be safety wired or is it some type of "secure by visually verifiable means" rule? I don’t have my manual handy, but if that rear axle requires rotating to be removed you could probably secure it by drilling a hole through the axle on the side closest to the slot in the swing arm, and just putting a cotter pin through the hole – with a length going into the slot and preventing rotation. |

That's what I was thinking... I would hate to drill a hole in THAT swingarm with THOSE axles though... My other thought would be to secure a longer nut into the axle where the axle tool would go and drill a hole and safety wire that somehow... If it comes out, I would love to see the reaction of a rider behind you upon seeing a nut dangling from your axle at speed . |

Roc, I dunno. But you ain't gonna rotate nuthin with the pinch bolt in place. I don't wanna drill the swingarm if I can get out of it. I'm pretty sure all I have to wire is the pinch bolt. But I think you may have an idea there though M1. A longer pinch bolt that can be safety wired. |

Hey, neat trick, I just tried the ctrl-a trick on this page and my browser crashed. Perfect for those days when everything else is going wrong and I want an early lunch. Unstable systems are such fun to work with. Overtaxing them doesn't help much either. |
