Stupid question, what would happen if you forget to remove the pinchbolt for the rear axle before trying to remove the axle? I understand it will make it require more force to loosen the axle, but would it cause any damage? | ||

Probably a small amount of galling inside the swing arm bore. | ||

Did the axle actually move? If it didn't move, no damage. If it did, you've just got some major metal sliding going on. I'd agree with dirtwheels, probably some galling, or at best some polishing. Probably not the end of the world. If there's enough grease/oil in there, probably no damage. | ||

Yea I don't think I had the bolt in very tight to start with. Last time I installed it, I didn't use a torque wrench, just my normal little ratchet with Allen key socket to install it, I just get it snug, and I am not strong either. I was removing the rear axle, it was taking a little more effort than normal, I was thinking my swingarm seized like I didn't use enough antisieze grease last time. I got about 2 or 3 full rotations out before I realized I forgot to get the fracking bolt out before putting it on the stand. Dropped it down, removed the bolt, jacked it back up and continued like normal. I looked at the axle, it didn't look odd or anything, and eyeballing inside the swingarm I couldn't see anything amiss either. I pressed on and continued with the wheel swap. Axle went back in smooth most of the way, then it got tough near the end, then smooth again right before it reached the end. I guess I did bugger it up a little bit. | ||

Hahaha I did this last night I backed it out with extreme force for about three or four turns. I was worried about the swing ARM bent because the axle stayed in both sides of the swingarm and spread it slightly. I loosened the pinch bolt and evrything seemed good. Two hundred miles today no problems | ||

If it's properly lubed with anti-seize, not much bad at all is likely to happen. | ||
