To all of the people on here that say the D&D exhaust is loud wasn't at the show I was at sunday. I actually heard another bike that was louder. OMG I thought mine is insane. I did get another trophy in the super sport class. That is number 6 for the 1125r....thanks Erik Buell.
it was about an 87 or 88 hardley davidson...straight pipes with fishtails that were extended about 2' past the bike with a flamethrower kit on it. I got 2nd place in the loud bike contest and 1st in the show for my class.
shame i wasn't there some folks i visited with in WV can attest that mine is prolly the loudest LOL no seriously i need a stock can back if i want to hear anything ever again

I only know my FMF full system drowned out an R1 with a slip on at a light, but I have heard Harleys that are louder at city street speeds. It does roar as I wind it up...
Why would U want it quieter? It's plenty quiet enough compared to a lot of the bikes I hear, especially the H-D ones! Some of them have no business on the street. They are so loud as to HURT people's hearing!
Because I feel it is too loud. I've even read on here about a guy who almost failed an inspection with the stock pipe because they didn't believe it was stock. It is by far the loudest stock bike I've ever heard.
Your right to ride is under attack and one of the main reasons is noise! My stock bikes are plenty fast enough to get me in trouble that i don't need to broadcast that i'm haulin' a** to every cop within 2miles. I personally don't like to hear every, HD/Jap bike/tuner car/boom box ect. that the owner think is cool blasting past my house. Would i like to have a more soulful v twin song on the pipe at times, dam straight! But i'll stick to stock. Have someone you know that is an AMA member give you a copy of American Motorcyclist and read on how many fronts your right to ride are under attack. Just my two cents!
My CR gets me in a stupid amount of trouble. Yesterday, I took it out for a romp down one of my favorite back roads. Know it like the back of my hand. No cross streets. Very little traffic. Came around a turn...half-hung-off and DEEP into a lean.
Huh.
That looks like a Sheriff's car up there.
Whoops, heheh. It WAS a sheriff's car. But the stock pipe on my CR kept him from hearing "braaaaappppppp-pp-p" as I rolled off the throttle and coasted past him (I'd slowed down to about 15 over the limit at that point).
Now I suspect the near-stealth features of plastic bodywork (we have one of those radar "your speed is" signs near my house and it never "sees" me until I'm about six feet away), and just dumb luck that I guess the guy doesn't ride or he'd known WHY I was hung off to one side of the bike...but I'm willing to bet if I'd been on one of my race-piped tubers? I'd have a new award to pay for.
That said...I keep my tubers' race cans properly packed. They're aggressive without being stupid-noisy. I hate noise for the sake of noise - there's no point other than to wave your ...well...it's a family forum so I won't get into what bodypart you're trying to wave. If it's a performance increase, that's one thing. But I've been around the 1190 race bikes, and the 1125 race bikes. They're QUIETER than some of this dumb crap running around on the streets.
And that crap on the streets, as noted above by Bob, puts MY right to ride at risk. And that? PISSES ME OFF.
One of the nicest sounding pipes I've ridden in a group with is the Torque Hammer. It had a fairly quiet, mellow tone kinda like a european sports car, but yeah, it was louder than stock but not at all rappy or obnoxious.
I don't know what it'd be like to have to listen to that all the time even if it does sound rich and mellow, but if it drones on, even with ear plugs, forget it - I'll take the stocker. I'd rather save my hearing for Surf Music.
I was on my VFR800 (stock pipes and real quiet) and was riding up in the mountains. I pulled out to pass a camper on a section of road with a slight rise. As me and camper were dead even we cleared the rise and up a head was a CHP car parked on the shoulder (dip on the road and camper hid the cop car) and the officer was walking back towards his car with his back facing me! I finished my pass...quietly...without using a lot of revs. The officer never turned around to see what was coming towards him. He never saw me as the camper most likely obstructed his view as we passed. Hahah!
I'm quite sure if I had loud pipes the CHP officer would have turned around and saw me passing in a double yellow and would have motioned for me to pull over so he can cite me. Thank you for quiet pipes!

Got in a short ride to the dealer yesterday. On the way home I got a big thumbs up from a passing state trooper. I know I was speeding at the time, didn't even see him until he was right next to me. Pretty sure I was about 15 mph over the limit as he rolled by.

Dean the RT-4 has just been classified as porn by the Department of Justice. The FBI will come knocking at your door sometime soon. Get rid of the evidence!!! I have a 'safe' bike we can hide it on. :-)
