Did they have to wipe the seat when you stood up?

Omg. Soooooo many possible bad connotations come to mind there. That was just too open-ended of a question Jim.

How do you ride: street, track days, racing? On a scale of 1-10 how aggressive are you? How does the bike match to your level of riding? Is it scary, inspiring, twitchy, predictable, overwhelming, easy, confident, holy shit?

I ask because I assume that the bike has capability beyond 99% of the riders out there. So I am curious how it will behave with us mortals in the seat.

He said he SAT on it, not rode.

My question:
If there was one piece that you could put on your 1125 from the 1190, which one would it be? (not something like motor, that is obvious and wasn't something that you were able to test by sitting on it)

Thanks.

I also saddled up, in NJ.

Looked Erik right in the eye and asked "where's the rest of it??" after I heaved it off the sidestand.

You can squat to the left of the bike and if you blow hard enough, I bet you could get it off the stand. It's THAT light. THAT balanced.

And yet, at 6'4"...I fit on it comfortably.

It's narrow.

It's light.

It's balanced.

It's gorgeous.

And don't be fooled by the "piece of grip tape" seatcushion. It's actually pretty comfortable.

One thing I would put on my CR in a heartbeat? The front brake - slotted rotor, redesigned ZTL2 caliper, and air duct. Aw, hell...gimme the whole front wheel, too : )

+1 on the air duct. Maybe they will make those for 1125s someday.

I saw the one out in Sturgis this year, and it was sex on wheels.

I would take the radiator/front fairing front end and put it on my bike, narrow her up so she doesnt hit as much wind. And i just love the double stacked lights, didnt like it on the Ducati 999R, but i like it on this bike

Thank you my esteem colligues (?) I will do my best to answer all your questions, but first let me open with...OH MY GOD.OH MY GOD.OH MY GOD.OH MY GOD. Thank you. Now that that's out the way.

Jduggy- yes they offered to wipe but instead the opted to let me lick it clean only after I rinsed my mouth 20 times with purified natural springwater.

Blake- I only went vroom vroom in my head.

Leonard- I'm not telling you where cause you'll go an steal it be for I do.. Ok it's @ Fast by Farracci willowgrove. Pa

99buellx1- if I could take something it would have to be the exhaust because it doesn't cover the stator, therefore it won't slowly cook the stator like it's in a crock pot. Which is the main reason we all keep burning them out. Even after a custom rewind

Crusty-sorry but it only goes forward in time...really really fast.

Jet-no it doesn't purr. But if you hit the ignition switch your b@lls will.

Froggy/jduggy- yes supercorsa

Rat- I'm 6'4" also and it fit like a glove.

Now if anyone needs me to off somebody for them my price is 1190
If there's a bully harassing your child, 1190 will make the go away
Wife being a pain just give me 1190 and the pain WILL go away

Good post and all that but hold the phone a minute.....what's that theory that the stock pipes cook the stators? This is the first I've heard that, and it's an intriguing possibility. Where did you come up with that?

Don't mean to highjack the thread, but had to ask.

Picture a crock pot. It will cook your food in 12 hours or less. Picture your exaust can. Gets pretty hot right but we got a liquid cooled system so were ok right???
WRONG!!!!! All the damage starts when our bike STOPS!!!! That's when the cooking STARTS!!!all that heat!!!
1st-The can blocks all the cooler air from cooling the stator.
2nd-The can wraps around the stator keeping the heat in the stator, in the stator!!!
3rd-All the heat in the can cooks the stator just like a crock pot.
Swap exhaust and see how long your stator last!!!
Forever??? NO!!! Twice as long??? Easily!!!!

FYI the whole front of the can is gone off the 1190!!! That stator can breath fresh clean air

Around 1000 miles less than with the stock exhaust.

Sorry, Guard Rail, but the heat damage to the stator doesn't happen when the bike stops running, it peaks when slow running doesn't provide enough oil splashing around to cool the coils sufficiently or so the current theory says.

Also, the stock muffler has far less mass to keep radiating heat as compared to the massive the engine block and tranny. In other words, the engine will transfer more heat into the stator than the muffler when the engine stops running after a few minutes.

The fact that Aprilia RSVs also suffer stator issue with their side mounted mufflers says what Guard?

I think he is right, steel holds heat for a long time while Aluminum will dissipate it much more effectively.
While it may not be THE REASON it certainly could contribute to it.

Couple of thoughts on the crockpot theory...
- I agree that the stock can/oil cooler and could be blocking airflow (and even adding heat) while in motion, but I don't know if the temperature rises after the bike is stopped. Be a good test if someone has an IR temp probe.
- 08's have the same can, but don't have the same stator problems. Could be that the 09 stator is already marginal and that last little bit of heat soak turns it from well done to hockey puck.
- Taking a guess here, but I bet if you took a survey of 09 owners with stock/aftermarket cans you may not find a correlation.
- Some well informed folks have already stated that EB has a fix in the form of an oil jet, so leads me to believe it is encountered during running conditions. Oil jet wouldn't do much after shutdown.

That heat would have to go through the aluminum stator cover and then through the oil then reach the stator...don't forget that the oil isn't just sitting there at idle either, it's being circulated too, and what about the hot spot on the '09 stator it's in the same place. Wouldn't the heat from the exhaust make the hot spots more uniform or at least be on the side closest to the muffler?

I don't know, but at this point I'm up for any suggestions and or theories.

all water cooled engines heat up a little when they are shut off from loss of coolant flow. if the coolant doesnt flow it cant transfer heat normally. part of the reason why most cooling fans today run after the engine is shut off, it takes some of the harshness away from the initial rise of temp.
