An invitation only meet on the salt. This morning a BMW S1000 went 176 or so with a guy driving and gal as passenger. Their return run will have her steering and him pillion. I'll see if I can bring a Buell next year. |

that'd likely be Erin Hunter & hubby Andy - they created that tandem record idea @ BUB's mebbe 6 yrs ago [on K1300 IIRC] ".....Erin Hunter has become a regular contender at Bonneville. Her first attempt was onboard Jack Costella’s “5050” streamliner. Jack’s unique design positions the rider face down in a flying “Superman” position a half-inch off the salt......"

I think it got banned after setting record(s). Spent all day at the timing tower, watched them cruise past twice at over 170-176 two up. I'll get the right figure tomorrow. It opens up the possibility of sidecars with passengers if it gets approved. We had the FIA car guys board from around the world having their yearly international meeting at a nearby casino/hotel. They fly out tomorrow, hoped to see a vehicle go over 400 mph. The Speed Demon roared past us at 442 or so. Rocky Robinson did a test this evening after the course closed and most of us left. No bodywork, planned to do about 150 for a shake down on a 400 run. Something went askew and it pencil rolled a dozen times. Rocky is bruised and went to SLC for observation. They are the only motorcycle streamliner at the meet, won't be running despite Rocky's wishes, leaving tomorrow. FMJ's partner Greg Watters and "Bones," their mechanic, is here with the Richard Assen team from NZ, turbo Busa, running in the 240s, hoping for 260. Leslie Porterfield here, too, shooting for the same number. I'll skip World Finals this year for family obligations. Too bad. I'm either a mad dog or an Englishman in this Bonneville noon day sun, and like it. |

hey Moxnix, RE: salt fever - you are infected with no cure known [or desired], the only relief is spending free time elsewhere - wait - after one's 1st B'ville, why do that ?

Yes thank you. I really can't imagine riding on the back of a motorcycle at 185, and they both did it they traded places when they ran the other way. |

Must be some hopped up Busas to run 200+,even the early unrestricted ones only kissed 200 with a jockey sized pilot on them.My 1397cc Busa would only pull 190 on the salt! |

Okay, maybe not 200. I haven't been there in a few years and never went over 100 mph in a car. But that was the the continued speed for an hour or more. |

Ed Thanks to your help we did OK almost. Christine was the rider on the new chassis running in the "Altered" configuration. I played at being the Team Manager and Crew Chief a new roll for me. It was a Good News / Bad News week for us. Here is the Good First: Her Rookie Run on a bike geared and tuned to run 125.6 MPH, she ran 124.984 just 0.6 off the rev limit in 5th gear, which was 10MPH over the current record. Bad News: We had "Salt Gremlins" in the wiring all week due to corrosion from 2009 meet. Did not get it ready for her 1st run until mid-day Wed, and we fouled a plug. But after over three hours at pre-grid Thurs afternoon she made the 124.9 run. - Then on her return fouled another plug going into the measured mile. It's now just two hours until the meet is over and we do not have time to make the plug change and return run. Christine did great and the new long low configuration of the "Altered" bike just proves it's all about getting out of the wind. We now have a great place to start for 2012. I recommend a spray can of CRC Electromotive after a race and before the next one. |
