those numbers are corrected. my best time was 12.33@ 111mph on an 1998 buell s3 with intake mod and slip on, the track was woodburn in 2002 at the ahdr race. I would like to who rode the bikes that turn in those times. Hutch.

Hi Bads,

Not sure when they ran the 1/4 on the 12, but apparently they did.....one thing that I found cool were the roll on times....they are AMAZING. 1/4 mile is too far for the 12 to keep up with the 4 cyls, but the roll on, torque dependent moves are just awesome with the new motor. Very cool stuff...Its really hard to beat the 12 from 0-60, or from 60-80 or from 80-100.....

Rocket,

you forgot the stuff that really counts, like 0-60, 60-80 and 80-90. The 12 will pull on the R6 at any point, and then the R6 will catch up and scream by. At the end of the day, we all cruise together in a pack, but the Buell can jump quicker, and get to the chicks first.

I don't believe anything the mags say about 1/4 mile times unless they show a rider doing it at a real track with real timing lights. R6 is a great bike and I don't think xb12 can hold candle to a r6 in a heads up drag race. there is to many things can effect the out come. Hutch.

WTF?

For you two love birds -the MCN article praised the shit outta the XB, or at least Michael Neeves who wrote the article did.

The back to back test was conducted at Rockingham Motor Speedway - and a 1km length of closed road featuring 5 very tight corners. Both bikes were dyno tested and data logged. Conditions were dry.

On track the R6 turned in lap times 4 seconds faster than the XB - and the XB recorded a slightly higher top speed at the apex of 5 out of 8 corners. Neeves also described the XB's stability as mind bending and made reference to ground clearance and superb lean angles - more so if track rubber could have been used to exploit the XB's handling.

The purpose of the road section was to determine if the XB could - in Neeves words - 'see if the Buells agility allowed it to stay on the coat-tails of the 600'. He further states ' Well the answer is: yes it could'.

This next part though is where I believe he finally talks twaddle and I quote 'The XB12R has very similar corner speeds to the R6 and even beats it through sections one and three (both tight left handers). The acceleration of the Yamaha allows it to reach a higher top speed between the corners but this advantage is negligible. NOW COMES THE TALKING TWADDLE BIT After the 1km stretch the R6 is only three seconds ahead, and the Buell rider has had a much less stop-start journey, holding more consistent speeds.

Rocket sez - after 10km (6.2 miles) the R6 is half a minute in front of the XB - and that's based on times taken from those five very tight turns - and that is NOT what I call 'hanging on to the 600's coat-tails'.

All else said that's high praise indeed - but it still doesn't make me desire an XB12.

Rocket

okokokok,

12's will be 12's and 6's will be 6's. It's quite obvious that anyone looking at an R6 would not buy a 12 no matter whats the mag's write, as they are two totally different animals. Its like comparing a Shelby Cobra 427 to a Honda S2000. Brute torque, or high revving screaming HP? Each one is set to satisfy....But different. Sportrider put together a cool article, but I dont really see the point. I want to see an article written up fighting the 12 against the new KTM Duke....now thats more like apples and apples...

I think a good comparison would be the new Moto Guzzi and the XB12. Pushrod vs. Pushrod. Which Duke are you talking about? The Super Moto is a single cylinder, if you're talking about the new twin, isn't it water cooled?

hell I got to chime in here because I have a sinus headache and got nuthing better to do right now.

whoever buys a sportbike and is worried about drag racing and quarter mile times , IMHO has bought the wrong bike

why do we really care about this really unless we are going racing. then it does make a difference.

occassional track days are about as close as any of us get to racing. And if your out there and just can't stand getting passed in the straights by a bike. Buy a 4 cyl bike that will do it .

if you ride on the street, 99% of the time you can't find out what your bike can really do without possibly putting yourself in danger or getting stopped by the cops.

and then to rocket
why is that my fat ol ass on an xb9r can hang with r6's r1's cbr's and gxsr's and ducks, and even pass them in the tight mountain roads....

oh yeah its the rider....its always the rider. Hell lets put you on the bike of your choice and bring out nicky and rossi and put them on 250 ninjas and take off thru the mountains. I'd lay a shiny quarter down that says you may lose that run and if not you wouldn't be that far ahead.

I ain't calling you out personnaly at all I am just using you as an example because you seem to be pushing buttons and as was said earlier
your a prime jackass!!!

so to end my rant.....
WHO REALLY GIVES A FLIPPIN FLYING WHOO DEE WHOO ABOUT ANYTHING WRITTEN ABOUT ANYTHING.
its all opinon's and we all got one so just ride what ya like and call it a day.

quarter mile times who cares,

So true - besides quarter mile times are for cars - on a motorcycle I'd be much more interested in 1/8th of a mile times - lol - and it seems nobody has those.

For what it is worth,

My last bike was a Kawa zx6R (02) and it was quite fast. However, it was not very quick, as in the way that you would like a bike ridden on normal roads to be. In other words, if you couldn't crank the shit out of the revs, the bike was kind of a dog (under 8000rpm, forget it). It also sounded peculiar, even with the yosh pipe on it.

I don't know about you guys but that did not cut it for me. Besides which, it was bloody uncomfortable after about 30 minutes of leaning over (could't wait for traffic lights so that I could flex my back and neck).

So, one ride on the xb9s was all it took. Two days later, I am riding and loving it. And with the race kit, the bike sounds like a real motorcycle.

Mid range (30-60 MPH roll) my xb9s would kill the ninja. After 80 mph, the ninja rocks but you know, I don't really care to be riding at 110 MPH on CA roads. Good way to get killed quickly IMHO!

Bucky is dead on as usual.

Acceleration counts when you're sitting at a freeway onramp metering light at the start of rush hour traffic and when the light turns green you have 100 yards to hit 70+mph to merge between the Peterbuilt and the cell-phoned Lexus, handling counts when there is an offramp cloverleaf and the offramp traffic is jammed up and you have to bumper slip between the slowing traffic and speeding traffic all the while watching for late mergers up ahead. The overall total package gets you home, the goal is to avoid becoming bugsplat on the pavement.

Isn't that an oxymoron ???? How would you feel if you were responsible for killing someone ?? Or do you mean only on a race or closed track ??
