Out for a nice ride today with the wife, both on our own bikes. I have an 1125CR in black, She has a 2011 ninja 250r. We stop at a gas station for a drink, go back out and get ready to go, everything looks great, start up procedure just as normal. Push the starter button, and nothing. Okay 2 hours away from home, so I start checking everything. Checked fuses, okay Checked relays under the seat, They are clicking, (didn't have a meter on hand) so I know the switches are working. Checked the cables to the starter, they are tight. tried starting with clutch pulled, kick stand switch is working. I am at a loss. Any input would be helpful. Needless to say, we rode that little 250 with 2 people all the way back home, through canyons and interstate. I was even surprised how good it handles for such a small engine. | ||

Battery good Connection solid. Heads up reads 12.8 volts. | ||

During some stator testing, in order to reduce the low idle load, removed the fuse for the headlights [leaving only the runners], bike won't start. Put back the headlight fuse and all ok. 1125R '09 model. | ||

Watch the headlights when you press the Start button. If the lights don't dim slightly, something is amiss between the Start button and the Starter motor like the Start or Key Relay or maybe the battery has lost all its guts and there's only a surface charge left. You say the relays are clicking? Well, there should only be one click from the Start Relay that precedes the Starter Motor turning and making noise unless the clicking you hear is the sound of a battery too weak to crank normally. | ||

+1 on checking the headlight fuse. It's a safety interlock/function - no lights, no start. | ||

check the headlight fuse, as mentioned already, no headlights, it will not start. If that is not the problem, you might want to check the ignition wires that connect into the bottom of the key cylinder. | ||

Thanks for all the input. found that the headlight fuse was popped. But after some checking into the reason it popped, I found that the ballast for the HID main headlight had popped the fuse. Once I replaced the ballast, everything is okay, other than I need another ballast for the high beam now. | ||
