the state is broke ...they need to come up with a way to tax ipods/texting/earbuds/jogging shoes/cell phones....hopefully the inspection will be for bikes built after 2010! |

A smog tech told me it will be for any bike that came equipped with any emission control device(canister etc) |

Cannot be retro-active. Only bikes built after it goes into effect can be included. No aftermarket exhaust of any kind is coming as well. Same deal though, bikes on the road prior to the laws enactment will be exempt. Its been a well discussed issue at work, and with the CHP guys I train with. |

Nothing new. There was something that went through around a year ago that will will affect bikes built after Jan 1 2013 but it will not include mandatory inspections. Something about modified exhausts, I really dont care. Just another thing that you can get cited for if a cop notices it. |

Cannot be retro-active. Only bikes built after it goes into effect can be included. 1978 is when motorcycles started being regulated exhaust wise. Visual inspections could go back that far. Inspection is just a form of enforcement. The laws against tampering already exist. Now in exile, I have to get all my vehicles, including motorcycles, inspected annually, for "$afety" and get a big ugly sticker put on them. b000 If California wants some $$$ they should just sell out and offer inspection exempt limited use registrations for hobbyists. |

I would pay money to have a "permit" for my aftermarket exhaust and ECM rather than uninstall/install for BS fix it tickets or have to take the bike in for SMOG every year or so. If old hot rods can get away with it why can I? The government is crooked enough and issues permits as a day pass around laws anyway. Its just a "pay us to look the other way" fee. I'm not too worried about my next bike, since I'll be going all electric. |

In CA, vehicles over 25 years old no longer need inspection. Well someone told me that but I'm not 100% sure. |

They don't get away from it. In NY at least, vehicles over 25 years old only get safety inspections, no emissions. That doesn't mean you can't be written up for having a loud muffler.

That does sound like a good idea, but I can see that getting abused. Part of the reason for annual emissions testing is to keep malfunctioning/polluting vehicles off the road. You can bet that some punk with a beat up 95 Civic that is burning oil like a 2 stroke would try and get that because the car would never pass the sniffer. I do like the idea though, but it would have to be expensive and have restrictions to prevent abuse. |

1125rz Did the smog tech say when? The original action was dropped in 2009. Until it happens no need to worry about it. |
