Noticed my front muffle mount bolt was sheared off of the X1 i just got, took the chin fairing off and found this.

So i shaped a piece of aluminum with a torch to get the bend right. Drilled it, used 2000 degree muffler putty to seal it and pop riveted it in place.

I heated it it up and dented it so the adjuster would clear more. I ended up adjusting the primary chain to get the bolt up higher. Its hard to see but the bolt is clearing the exhaust, not by much! But the muffler doesn't move so it shouldn't wear a hole.

Ended up having to drill the rear mount and placing the bolts about 3/4" over to allow the muffle to hang correctly. Added some washers between the exhaust mount and the muffler itself. This helped with the clearancing too.

I also widened the hole in the front mount on the exhaust to prevent any binding on the front mount bolt so it wont shear off if it vibrates. So far so good!

If it doesnt work i can always go back to the stock exhaust, but man this one sounds so good!

I hope this adjustment wasn't made just for muffler clearance because if so you will start having primary and shifting issues .

ok try the links now.
No i didnt adjust the bolt just for clearance, it needed to be adjusted as well.

The lack of clearance is my only gripe with the V&H pipes.
I hate that you have to drop the muffler to change the tranny juice.
The primary chain adjuster thing is a new one on me though. Your chain must have been flopping around like a beached bluefish!

Nate, why do you have to drop the muff to change tranny fluid? I don't.
I put either a piece of cardboard or sheet metal between cases and muffler to drain it into an oil pan. Works great and is much less work!

The V&H tranny fluid thing comes from one experience I had.
It was a 2000 M2 of a friend.
Perhaps earlier units were closer to the engine?

My X1 is still running a "Daytona Boss" and that has lots of room underneath for everything.

How is the back mounted? I thought I read something about people mounting them without the factory z-bracket. This would cause the mounted angle to be wrong. Sorry if I'm off base on this. I don't have one I just thought I remembered something.

Your not supposed to use the factory z bracket, if you do it puts it at a wrong angle

The stock band might work. If i have anymore issues that is the next step i will try.
Love the way this exhaust sounds, but it is getting to the point of not being worth the hassle.
