Well, the weather finally dried out here in Maryland and I needed a ride. So there. To take care of that the last two days, I've ridden two tubers after work. S2 yesterday, S1W today. I tell ya...night and day difference between the two, but both are still awesome. I need to re-train myself that the S2 is a more "relaxed tourer", though. I've been pushing the CR and the Uly pretty hard of late, and trying to get the ol' S2 to behave the same way gets a good bit of chassis 'wag' and flex. Kinda romantic, in a way - you really get to talk with the motorcycle - once you get through the first couple turns and remember "oh yeah...this one has some character to watch out for". It's not nearly as bad, but its the same sort of flex I used to get from my old FLHP when I pushed it hard. I also need to decide if I want to drop the gearing to match the S1W, to give it a little more bottom-end grunt. It might work out very nicely with the Thunderstorm top end and X1 cams... The S1W, though? Mmmm. Darn near perfect just the way it is. Michelin PR3's in stock size. Penske rear shock. Stock engine with Buell race kit (intake, header/muffler, and ignition). Stock rear hugger. Solo tail with factory Euro seat. Stock bars. Stock brakes. Light, tossable, flickable, responsive, no noticable frame flex compared to the S2 and with the PR3's it drops in and holds a rock-solid line no matter what the pace. I feel MUCH better now!! |

Hmmm...you may have something wrong with your S2. What kind of tires? I had Dunlop Roadsmarts on my S3. They sucked beyond belief. The front was brand new when I bought the bike and the rear was within 1K of needing replacement. I hated them so bad that I changed them both (even the new Dunlop) for PR3s. It transformed the bike. I'm running PR3s on three of my tubers (S1W, S2, S3). They all handle very similarly. In fact, the S2 really seems to be the MOST stable of the three. |

PR2, good tread, proper pressure. Neck bearings replaced within the last 5k. Rear isos as well. It's nothing that sends me off-line...but I can feel it flexing some. No big deal...it's 16 years old, after all! The S2 is rock-stable as far as wind and tracking...but if I push it really hard in the turns and catch a bump or dip, I get some flex that I don't get on the XB or the 1125. Which...is natural given the structural differences. |

Ahhhhh...I thought you were comparing it to the S1W. Nevermind. Nice stable ya' got there. |

Joe:Is that the Gooseness the race team reported when they raced S2s? |

Ahhhhh...I thought you were comparing it to the S1W. Nevermind. Same here. I thought I was going to have to mention the fact that the S2 frame was the stiffest frame of the tubers. But I digress... 1313 |

Ratbuell, maybe you are also a big enough guy to flex an S2. I don't think I could induce that kind of flex, either in my (throttlepansy) riding or by my (little guy) size. Or maybe I'm just not astute enough to register it as "flex." |

Somebody needs my S1W to put a smile on their face. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 650249.html?1315586092 |

Not a big guy...but not a real bright guy either. I have a tendency to forget that I'm pushing a 16 year old bike to its limits |
