I just picked up an 08 with a filter, exhaust, and an Erik Buell Racing ECM. The o2 sensors are unplugged. Where I live compared to where it was is different in elevation, humidity, temperature, etc. Not to mention the fact I like real world torque, not dyno HP. Looking for a smoother ride if it is available. I couldn't just plug the o2 sensors back in, could I? Is there a parameter shut off in the ECU? Do I need a programming cable? Also, what is the quietest aftermarket exhaust available? The one on there is too loud for my likes. It is an APH, and it sounds great. I prefer flying in stealth mode, no afterburner on. |

Also, what is the quietest aftermarket exhaust available? If you want quiet aftermarket exhausts then you need to look at the Euro compliant makes that are tested and approved for use in Europe. Most of the US made pipes are MUCH louder than these, as area lot of the European made 'race' pipes. Alternatively stick to a stock pipe unfortunately. Remus make a reasonably quiet aftermarket exhaust for the 1125 http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/280.html. |

I have no driveability problems with the stock pipe, and when you're revving it properly (over 7k) it is quite musical. For the O2 sensors...it depends. Is there a piggyback programmer box? Different ECM? What else was done in order for them to unplug the sensors? Chances are there was a programming change, because a null value on the sensor circuit (unplugged sensor) would throw a check engine light with a stock ECM. |

If I would have known about this, I would not have bought my FMF pipe, I still like it but its a little loud (i'll try the quiet core sometime in the future). |

As stated in my first post, it is an Erik Buell Racing ECM. Is it programmable to negate the need for an o2 sensor? Thanks for the inputs guys! I may be putting this pipe for sale. Just too much like a telegraph, really. |

If it really is a ebr race only ecm, then plugging in the O2 sensors won't hurt any. Odds are that it isn't a reprogrammable ecm, those are $750 and they come with a cable and the software. The pre-programmed ones were only $250 and don't come with anything except instructions on how to install it. |

But if it is an Erik Buell Racing ECM, the good news is...if you change exhausts (or really...any part of your configuration), you should be able to send it back to them and have THEM reprogram it to match your new combination. tech@ebracing.com |

Cost is only $35.00 to have the ECM reprogrammed. Ship them the ECM with a list of your parts i.e. what exhaust you have and in a few days time you will have a fresh proper programmed ECM! |

for an exhaust, I have a barker's exhaust with the quiet core. It has a nice sound, and isn't too loud. Check it out. |

Yes you should plug in the O2 sensors. |

I'm surprised it runs. Wouldn't the AFV's be nuts? Or does the ECM compensate for the loss in some way? |

The ecm will run on the base map without the O2 sensors. If it's the wrong map, it won't run right or to it's full potential. The AFV's won't change, the O2 sensors are are what makes it change. |

My '08 has the race ECM, unplugged O2 sensors, EJK from Dobeck and runs just fine. Pulls smooth from about 2,800 rpm. Last load of fuel was 43mpg.... |

It'll run like it's carbureted. But not that well. It's designed to get feedback from the exhaust. Without that feedback, it looks at AT, CT, RPM, VSS, and TPS...and guesses. |

The big problem with all the narrow band sensors are they target 14.7:1 air fuel ratio which is stoichiometric for 100% gasoline. Almost all 'gasoline' sold at the pump today in the US is E10: contains 10% Ethanol. Stoichiometric for E10 is 14.0:1 - that is if it only contains 10% ethanol. Actual tests show some pump fuels today contain up to 15% ethanol, which ideally requires about a 13.75:1 air/fuel ratio. So if you're running E10 with stock narrow band sensors your running lean....surging at steady state cruise and poor throttle response are the obvious indication. Some engine designs are more sensitive to this than others as far as the drivability issues go. Switch out those narrow band sensors with the Innovate Motorsports LC1 controllers that use Bosch wideband sensors and feed the analog output to the ECM set to target 13.75:1 and you will be amazed.... |

I put my bike on a dyno and found out that it runs at about 12:1 to 13:1 WOT, but when it is held at cruising speed (70-80mph) it ran lean at about 15:1. We unhooked the O2 sensors and it ran about the same richness at WOT but during cruising speeds it went to about 13.5:1 The only difference I saw was getting 15 MPG less while cruising around. My instant was at about 28-32mpg and i didnt like that at all. Pulled over and hooked both the sensors back up and within 10 miles it was about at 38-44mpg. I found out my bike gets REALLY good gas mileage when i'm cruising at 65MPH and in a full tuck, usually saw 50mpg on my instant gas mileage. |

I plugged in the rear, looking for the front! It's been tucked away. So far not liking many options available for the exhaust. May go for the stock exhaust after all. I think about weight savings until I remember I'm 260. I should be the one shedding weight, right? |

Lampo, Are you using the stock ECM or the Erik Buell Racing ECM? |
