Long story short, I have replaced the coil and the cam position sensor, checked wiring between both the plug for the cam position sensor back to the ECM . I am getting a 5 volts from the cam sensor to the ecm and have 12 volts in the center of the three wires the run from the ECM to the coil. I still have no spark, I have the factory service manual the only thing else in the circuit that is left is the ECM… Anyone have any other checks to make before trying to find a ECM? Anyone know where to find a ECM for sale? Thanks Ted |

I have one you can have. It has the OEM map, but that's easy to fix nowadays. Shoot me your address and it's yours. |

Very same thing happened to me a couple years ago, drove me absolutely nuts trying to figure it out. Disconnect your speedometer sensor and see if that helps. The connector is probably under your battery tray. Long story short, when the speedo sensor goes out it acts as a kill switch. |

It sure can, that is one of the failure modes. When mine went it was blowing the ignition fuse though. Easy to check. I'll get the ECM UPSd today Ted. If it doesn't solve your problem, please send it back to me. Hope it does though. Jeff |

Thanks to a fellow Bad weber the ECM arrived yesterday, I plugged it in and the bike fired up instantly. ļ I sucked it up and ordered a cable and race map to download into the ECM those parts should be here today, I think my bike had race maps before. My bike a 99X1 Race Stripe was the very first bike Buell painted with the stripes. It is not blue but a red metal flake also. My bike was the Buell plant mangers bike (his cov in 99), he had the stock ecm re-flashed at the factory and tuned on the dyno. So tonight I will have some more insight as to what is in the original ECM. |

Good to hear. Glad it worked out for you. Don't forget to do a TPS reset while you've got ECMSpy hooked up. |

I guess this is what I get for thinking, I got the stock eprom and stock fuel maps backed up or so I thought Thursday night. Saturday I hooked up my old ecm on bike think that something just fried internally causing it to not send a single to the coil but the fuel maps and eprom info should be ok. I saved the maps and eprom for the old ecm and loaded them the new one. The bike would only run the starter button pressed in not on the starter. I thought well I will just put the eprom back to stock and leave the maps alone. The bike started normally but five mins in the test ride the bike started popping and missing, now no matter what I do I can’t get it to run correct. I tried to load the stock fuel maps as well. No real change. Looking at the plugs it is very rich. I think the bike ran ok with the stock maps from the new ecm but I only went on a 5 min ride. |

What is your AFR for both cylinders? Did you do a TPS reset? |

check the afv it is on the main gauge panel, and also in runtime. look for an abnormally high value, like 110 or above. can you toggle open loop learn to on? you may have a problem with the pins for the ecu main plugs, the nlack and grey one, i had a problem with the orange insert moving around.may be bad pin connection, easy to check. |

Thanks for the suggestions, how do I change the AFV? If I remember right it is like 130. I will check on these when I get home. |

OK the AFV was at 118, I reset it and went for a 10 mile ride. I took it easy most of the time, when I did get on it popped and missed after 5k rpm. However in the mid range it pulled nice. I am going to check the timing next any thing else i should look at? |

Have you checked your CPS sensor? If not check it and the associated wiring too. They do go bad occasionally. |

Ted: What are you doing this weekend? You want to come over or I can come to you. I've got Saturday free. Let me know. |

I doubt any thing is wrong with timing. On ECM spy you can highlight a group of cells on the furl map and add a percentage to the selected area. Maybe highlight where you feel it's running lean or missing and add 7% and go for a spin. |

CPS= Cam position sensor, I have already replaced the CPS, I was going to use ECMspy to check it out. As far as mods go I am running a V&H slip on muffler and a Force winder style intake. After resetting the afv the and going on a ride it cam back at 106. Two-seasons, thanks! I cant this saturday i am playing in the dirt at Mikes Motorsports, where are at? I can also come by you too. |

I'm in Waukesha. If you are interested, I'm here Sunday too. Call me 2sixtwo,two7one,zero84one if you have some time. I've got a good collection of tools plus multimeter. If you have a Digital Volt Meter, bring that as mine is a cheap RadioShack analog. |

Now that the AFR or AFV is sitting at 106, how is it running at speed? I assume that was the rear cylinder yes? All that you've indicated doesn't point to an intake seal leak, so they are probably ok. What are the current issue(s)? |

Oh man. The ECM huh. I recently got my X1 back together after got rear ended. I was sorting out my new push rod tube leaks, when it died, right in front of my place. I just replaced the coil now with a new one, still no spark.? When I tested my middle terminal, from the coil, I only got just over 10 volts. I think I have a spare ecm for it somewhere, I'll have to find it. Both my clutch and side stand switches are bypassed for a long time now, so I checked those and they look fine. Nothing from the jiggle test. I miss my X1. I recently got the Buell tooth device too, but I don't know WTF I'm doing, so I didn't even screw with anything yet. |
