Hey, hoping someone can help. Yesterday I was doing a break burn (for no other reason other than to be stupid), and something gave way. There was no loud bang or any strange noise that I can remember. I did get a burnt smell and then I stopped and shut the bike down. When I restarted, no go. She was clicking through the gears, but not moving. I took off the cover plate behind/above the shifter and there was a definite burnt oil smell. Thoughts? | ||

Do you still have a belt? If so, it sounds like you burnt up your clutch. | ||

There is a belt.... if the clutch was burnt, would she still click through the gears though? And shouldn't it still have something? | ||

The clutch is basically the link between engine and transmission so if it is burnt the transmission is free to switch gears. Your clutch has probably been slipping you just hadn't noticed. Improper adjustment on the clutch cable can also cause premature failing of the clutch itself. There is also a possibility that its the clutch basket that gave way if it was an all or nothing instant change. | ||

No problem. FYI a clutch replacement is going to run you over $500. | ||
