The first 8 characters are all the same for these bikes, and the last 4 digits appear to be unique (i.e.- indicating bike number XXX1 was built just before bike number XXX2). OTOH, we have several different 9th characters in the VINs for bikes built in the same month.   Andymnelson Posted on Thursday, September 01, 2011 - 09:01 am:        It's a "verifying number", used to determine fake BINs: " Make/Model: (Digits 1-3) This breaks out the vehicle's make, model, and manufacturer. Vehicle Features: (Digits 4-8) These digits identify the various features of the specific model — trim specifications, driveline options, etc. Verifying #: (Digit 9) Determined through a complex mathematical formula that relates to the other numbers in the VIN; used to verify that the VIN itself is not fake. Model Year: (Digit 10) Represents the vehicle's model year, which is not to be confused with the year it was sold or delivered. Assembly Plant: (Digit 11) An internal digit that shows where the car was built. Sequence Of Model Production: (Digit 12-17) These digits indicate the order in which the vehicle left the assembly line. IIRC, the WAG number I came up with (based upon all of the information I could muster at the time, along w/ the help of one certain amphibious creature who shall remain nameless) was 1.6% or a 1-in-63 chance of crank failure. ...
