New to riding and just bought an 06 uly from HD about a month ago.It has 7100 miles. I took it out last afternoon and it stalled out after a few miles at about 45mph. Started back up but was bucking and making a hissing sound every few seconds , the throttle was jumpy and jerky and it wont stay idled, everytime I brake and drop into a lower gear the lights dim and it seems to loose power, I have to keep the throttle open because it will stall if i dont. I have no idea where to start. It ran fine just two days ago, so this was a surprise.Plenty of gas and hoses /wires seem to be in good condition, any ideas? On the right side of the throttle body (as your sitting on it) theres an unused vacuum port that has a rubber cap on it the covers get dried crack and fall off that would account for all the symptoms you describe. to get to it you have to remove the air box cover and the air box but its pretty simple to do. You can get the vacuum caps at any auto parts store. If thats not it check for intake leaks by spraying brake cleaner around where the intake meets the cylinders and see if the engine stumbles and/or dies. |

Okay I checked the rubber cap on the vacuum port and that looks good as new. I haven't checked for intake leaks yet but that will be my next test. I did give it a ride and tried to see if anything caught my attention that would help. I noticed a few things : Still not idling well -its idling around 1000 rpms but then drops until it stalls out, it only takes a few seconds. After I gave it a ride it did idle without problems until I turned it off- started it back up and still no idle- I hear some type of sporadic air sucking noise under the cover as I change gears and get going - same time it bucks a little- I can also hear a light buzzing noise( sounds like the diagnostic buzz when you first start up) to the right side , sounds like its around the fan motor but not sure- the fan did come on-but when the fan was off i could still hear a light buzz? I appreciate any help I can get, thanks for your input. |
