out riding my 08 X yesterday, almost home and the bike quit running out of nowere. coasted to a stop and rolled the starter but the bike wouldnt fire. i didnt hear the fuel pump. uh oh. only about a mile away from the house thank god. pushed her down the dirt road,up the gravel driveway, and into the barn. i found the fuel pump fuse blown while in the barn, and a spare sitting right next to it.........i feel like a moron. i didnt have to push it at all. Unfortunately, I had the same thing happen to my ’07. The fix was a new fuel pump. Blew the fuse twice, both times a new fuse fixed the problem. The third time it blew several fuses including a 30 amp, even a paper clip didn’t work. | ||

If a fuse goes there is a reason for it. Find out why and please do not use anything else unless it is an emergency as you could cause a fire on your bike. The fuse protects the cable and not the device. (Message edited by uly_man on August 28, 2011) | ||

No not at all. It could have just been a bad fuse it does happen. In general the pumps seem good. Just have some backup if you have any further problems. | ||

08s seem to blow the fuse(more so than others) on a hot day and nearly out of gas. The fuel cools the pump but at low fuel levels, it's no longer submerged. As it heats up it draws more juice until the fuse blows. Keep more fuel in the tank, fill up more often to keep the level up. Zack | ||

the low fuel light came on like 1 minute before it stalled too. hmmmmm. and i passed the law just before also and lugged the engine a little. i thought to myself i must be low on gas because the heat on my legs. the light came on and a minute later it stalled. thanks guys. This also happened to me on my 09 XT. In the middle of a 10 mile stretch of highway over a marsh. Next exit 5 miles. First I panicked, then I started saying to myself "it's simple, there's fuel, oxygen and fire". So went through the list and found the fuel pump fuse was blown. Replaced it and off I went. Next move was to buy a handful of extra fuses and be prepared. In my case this never happened again. Reading the forum posts it looks like this is more likely to occur when you run low on fuel. The pump becomes exposed to air and may heat up more than normal operating temp and the fuse blows. Not saying this is your situation, but wanted to let you know it happened to me and so far has not happened again. | ||

check the current draw to see if it is within spec.if the pump drawing too high a current it is just giving you notice. | ||

Thursday evening on my way to the Ace Cafe my Uly stopped , the fuel light was on but it should have gone further. I probably was down to the last quart but my fuel pump fuse blew too. Fortunately there is a spare in the fuse box. |
