I LOVE the Big Horns, Bking! Both from Buffalo and across(west) and Sheridan and across. Beautiful mountains. We just crossed at Sheridan heading for Cody 13 days ago. Enjoy! |

Did the Sheridan route today. Buffalo route tomorrow. I think there might be a forest access road north out of Ten Sleep that might get me close to Greybull. |

Well I did find that access road from Tensleep north. In the middle of nowhere. 20 miles north of Tensleep on a cool dirt road. Figured I would end up somewhere around Greybull.
I was prepared. Texted my wife a photo with GPS coordinates, had water and a full tank of gas.
At 32 miles north of Tensleep and 50 yards into this deep crap, I figured it can't last too much longer…………. 6" deep silt makes for a soft landing.
I wasn't prepared for this stuff. It had the consistency of flour. I basically had to dig it out with my hands and feet so I could stand it up. Took about 45 minutes.
Turned around, doubled back to Tensleep. Ended up being a long day, but I have a good story. --- Bob |

I can't even keep a motocross bike up in that sand. |

500 lbs bike + rider + gear on 17" "smooth" tires in that stuff definitely = Uly nap! |

What were you thinking? Probably thought that this was not a good idea. |

Here's what you do, stand up and lean as far back as you can. Grab a hand full of throttle to keep that front tire light. Get up to 50 mph and then really crash and burn!! |

500 lbs bike + rider + gear on 17" "smooth" tires in that stuff definitely = Uly nap! I just got back from a SW trip (CO, NM, AZ, TX, and UT) and found that out! Turns out corners with street tires on trails that ATVs love to power slide in are recipes for dirt naps. In AZ I was traveling on a perfectly good piece of asphalt when the Navaho nation either ran out of money, or decided the road and people who lived on it didn't really need asphalt, so I spent the next 7+ miles on fair to midland dirt before it turned into a big sand pit and I was swimming with the Uly all over the road trying to make progress. I kept the Uly upright there, but only because I was walking with it. Maybe with the right tires life would be different, but in my recent experience, the Uly on soft dirt/sand is a bad combination.
