Made it home safe and sound - 817 miles (~4500 miles on the 10-day adventure). Thanks again to Mark and family for another GREAT time. Hope to see y'all down the road. (Message edited by road_kill on August 22, 2011) |

Hey Jim, I made it home around 7:30ish. You were right, the 119 route did not fare so well. 16 was OK although slow riding. It rained so hard on 119 that there was gravel and mud being washed onto the road and worse than that was the leaves that the rain pounded off from the trees. North of Charleston even BIGGER rain was coming, so I decided to hop on I79. Finally found sunshine at Beckley. It was dry from there home on the slab. I had a great time also, thanks again to the Gainer family for hosting and feeding. Our Jeep ride was great also, especially for Ken! And Mark's Jeep gave me cooties! I stepped out in a creek bed to take pictures and got nailed by Chiggers. Ken said they are somehow related to the Borg, as hundreds of them thought in unison to nail me in less than a second!
It is great seeing everyone again.....even Gary! |

Mark, thank you again for everything, it was freaking awesome. Everything from the endless food to the campfire Jenga. Hopefully you will have something up your sleeve for next year! |

I got home an hour ago. It was perfectly sunny today... and I took 16 south to 79... all dry and pretty deserted too ! YES, I am rubbing it in. I had a great time. I am a little traumatized by the strange animal noises Gary and Vern were making all night on Saturday, but other than that it was perfect. I also met a local family of riders that I hung out with Sunday night and they were great too. Mark, I owe you and your family. They were just fantastic. One thing I did not appreciate on the way home was Mr. Virginia State Trooper who almost gave me a heart attack. On 77 South he pops out onto the Highway from behind some trees with his blue lights flashing... I slam on the breaks and as he catches up to me has the blue lights off... then he gets right up next to the left of me and throws the blue lights on again. I slammed on the brakes again and he makes a left turn into the trees in the median again. Little well, at least he had other plans!!! Right now I need to eat and shower. Will post up some photos later. |

Well, dangit- Mark, I hate that I missed out on this, what you've said was the last of its kind... so far with the pics, would've been great to catch up with all youn's. Campfire Jenga sounds like fun! Please all, post your pics- if I couldn't be there, that's the next best thing, along with the stories! Heck, that's why we do these things, right? Maybe someday I'll coordinate with Vern and others here locally and work something up. I just acquired a boat, might be fun to plan a campsite on the water and change it up from Buellin' to swimming/skiing/tubing... Gotta keep on keepin on! |

I think I have a case of chiggers... do NOT do what I did and unpack your tent and throw it in the bathroom!!! |

The sky had just broken open dumping big fat drops on me just as I pulled up my tent stakes. Everything got soaked in seconds. As the rain was falling there were several spiders running into my tent from the surrounding grass. It was almost fun to watch. I unpacked mine today to dry it all out, and did so in the yard. Seems like I was too exhausted from working yesterday to get it done before dark. |

I've had tentzilla in the driveway for 3 days in a row... I think its almost dry. Cabela's had replacement poles in stock and should be here soon. The rain fly looks like my rain gear... duct tape and all. |
