FYI, Madstad has a fairly new mount that works with the stock plastic cowl. It utilizes a stiffner plate that fits to the back of the cowl. I have tested it with the stock tall screen for over 3,000 miles and have no issues. It is made of quality powder coated stainless.
Stiffner plate inside

Inst. right

outside right

I couldn't imagine traveling at interstate speeds with the stock setup.
The install is easy and comes with instructions.
Any questions feel free to ask.

I am thinking about the same set up.Just a few questions. How tall are you, what seat do you run and what change in the wind is there for you with this this rig?

I am 5'-11" and have run the tall and low seat. I'm sticking with the tall seat and feel it raises me about 1.5". I could not run at speeds above 70 with the stock set up, buffetting excess noise etc. was the main problem. I think the stock screen doesn't go tall enough or wide enough. At highway speeds I run set about 1" up from full down and tilted Forward just shy of max. I ran for 12 hrs from Dallas to Taos and had lots of time to make adjustments. It is not perfect in the sense that you shouldn't expect this huge dead air space to ride behind. There is a calm spot and it increases as you raise the screen. This is just the spot I found I could leave it for doing the twistys and highway stuff, without needing to make adjustments. Some of the buffetting is caused by wind below the windshield hitting the frame and riding up under your Helmet. Most of this is fixed by running a tank bag, however I have made some little spoilers that help some especially without the tank bag. I could take a pic of those if interested. One other note. You could try running your stock tall first. If you aren't satisfied with the dead zone Madstad makes a screen that is slightly wider and taller. It makes for a bigger dead spot. I have run it but feel it is almost too much and I don't get enough air flow to keep cool. Even with the stock screen I found myself sticking my head out from behind the air pocket just so my helmet could vent some air.

Hope this helps.

Sure lets see the spoilers. If you have a tall screen laying around would you let someone try it out? Thanks for the info.

I made my own stainless stiffener to put behind the flyscreen when I installed my Palmer brackets with the stock 08 XT tall shield. Works great! I do not have the Palmer braces at all.

PS I am very thankful to have a friend who has a lot of metal fabrication equipment, which he allows me to use.

Spoiler picture. My idea was to create something that would interrupt the flow coming up off the frame. I used a piece of plastic I had lying around and some velcro to fasten to the frame. It is the small carbon fiber item just below the buckle. I could take more pics if someone is interested...

I have Palmer brackets and the tall OEM screen.
I made a set of stiffeners that do a very good job of keeping the w/s from flapping at idle speeds.

I still wasn't happy at freeway speeds so I stuck some foam between the flyscreen and the w/s.
HUGE improvement.
In rain or bad crosswinds I can tuck down into relatively still air too. win-win.

Zack: Are your stiffners external?

I thought the gap between the screen and cowl was supposed to help buffetting by reducing pressure from behind the screen. I might have to try your foam idea or create a spoiler that fills the gap some. So your saying some of the buffetting is caused by wind flowing between the screen and cowl?

Yes, external -

After I took this pic, I painted them gloss black.

There is supposed to be a reason for the gap, but I have been riding with the foam there for about 6 months and prefer it.
Since it has worked well for me, I am going to make something more permanent.

I'll go get some fresh shots now...
