Hey, I am trying to do a TPS reset on my 2003 firebolt because of a problem with low idle and surging. I bought a cable and downloaded ECMspy. I have read how to get the bike hooked up but I must be an idiot or something. I turned the ignition to the on position and the kill switch to the run position. However, when I go to plug the cable into my ECM the bike's lights and everything shuts off and I can't seem to get the program connected. Is this normal for the lights and everything to shut off when you unplug the ECM? I will try again tomorrow. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

If I am reading your post correctly, the problem is unplugging the ECM. No need for that. Connect the ECMspy cable to the data access port in your bikes wiring harness, turn ign and stop/run switch on, and you are set. Perhaps check w/a Badwebber in your area who can assist? |

You should have the cable plugged in before turning the key and kill switch on. Charge the battery and remove the headlight fuse when working with ECMSpy to prevent the battery from being drained. It impossible for the cable to cause the lights and bike to shut off. |

Thanks Akbuell and Terrys1980, I am going to try and give the battery a charge. Hopefully when I unplug the data access port it won't turn off. |

So I charged my battery today and then tried again. My lights and everything on the bike die when unplugging the diagnostic port. I tried to plug in my cable to see if I could hook up to ECMspy but I get nothing. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks. |

I still don't get why or what your unplugging after you have the bikes ignition and lights on. Connect everything, then turn the bike on. Without messing with the diagnostic post, wiggle the wiring around by the steering head to check for a chaffed or broken wire. How old is the cable and where did it come from? It is quite possible the cable is shorting causing th ECM to shut down. (Message edited by terrys1980 on June 19, 2011) |

I just messed and wiggled with the wiring when the the ignition and lights were on and I didn't find any chafing or anything. |

Is there a way for you to take a picture of what your unplugging? Upload it on photobucket.com and post it on here? Or email it to me? Describe as best you can what you are unplugging? The diagnostic port is a 4 pin female plug with a rubber plug in it. Its behind/under the front fairing. |

Yes please take a picture of what you are unplugging. What you are describing shouldn't be possible, the ECM diag port has nothing to do with the lights and such. |

That is definitely not the diagnostic port. If you have a Firebolt it should be on the left side(when sitting on the bike) in front of the fork tubes under the headlamp housing. I'm not home or otherwise I would have posted a pic of the port myself. And it most likely has a gray shell not black. (Message edited by terrys1980 on June 19, 2011) |

Just got a '00 x1 with 11k. First Buell. K&N, Supertrapp, and race ecm. Did not run. Got it running and found that the previous owner changed the eeprom and maps without backing up the originals. I need eeprom and maps to get me a base to start from. The firmware i BUEJA120. Please help |

I went to that site and saved the files. I tried burning them to my ecm but got a error message that they are not compatible. I thought the firmware needs to be the same. I have the BUEJA120 and that eeprom is a BUEKA210. What do I do? |

You should be able to copy the maps by opening 2 instances of ECMSpy, one with your BUEJ EEPROM loaded and one with the BUEK EEPROM loaded. Click on the maps tab. You can click on the top left corner where is says TPS to select all cells, right click, copy and paste to other EEPROM. Do this for fuel front and rear and timing front and rear. Then save as a new EEPROM. (Message edited by TerryS1980 on August 19, 2011) |

So i got the maps copied. Do I need to to anything with the actual eeprom or just save it. All I did was change the maps-right? Will all the other configurations be ok? I have no idea what the previous owner did or did not do. I appreciate all the help. |

The other maps look good. Just took it for a 15 mile ride and she stumbles hard at 3500rpms and up. I have to roll through this. Lower rpms she builds ok power but stutters hard when I whack it. ??? It was doing something similar when I started all this. Going to check for intake leak. |

That's way too low. You are running too rich. Checking the intake seals is always a good idea but I think your problem is elsewhere. I would start with a known good set of maps; fuel and timing. |

I used the maps I got off of the site above. That is all I have. I am running the K&N and Supertrapp. I live in Colorado at 5200 feet. Could use any help I can get to get this bike to run properly. The stumble is drastic at 3400 rpms and up. If anyone has other maps or suggestions I open. |

So were you successful in resetting the TPS? If not, get the motor nice and warm and do a reset by following the procedure described in the ECMSpy Tuning Guide. Also reset your AFV to 100 while you're there. |
