2007 Blast, she's hard to start. Carbs cleaned and I rode her today after a hard start. Stopped to pay a bill and she would not start again :-(
suggestions? |

For reasons I can't explain, I often have to clean carbs twice. Clean them once (every last crevice and film), reassemble, ride for a week or two... then do it all over again.
Maybe it's me and it could be done right the first time. Or maybe once the bike starts running right and actually gets used, it stirs up all the other stuff. Who knows... at least on single cylinder bikes it's really easy to pull, clean, and replace.
I like bamboo kabob sticks for cleaning. Tough, won't scratch anything, and you can keep cutting / re-sharpeining them into points or scrapers as necessary.
Carb cleaner helps also, but it is nasty stuff, so have vinyl gloves around (not nitrle or latex, they will disolve). Don't dip the whole carb, but the metal parts without rubber you pull can be dipped / soaked.
Also could be electrical... put in a new plug, make sure the wire from the plug to the coil is snug at both ends.
Does the Blast have a clutch / side stand switch? Those fail often.
And what about intake leaks? I think the boot on the blast can leak, meaning your mix is all screwed up. So make sure that's not leaking... |

Tried starting fluid? If the problem is in the carburetor it will at least pop and try to start with a squirt in the air cleaner. Checked your plug lately for spark and deposits? You may be experiencing an electrical problem. Don't buy a new carburetor until you're sure that's your issue. |

I've tried the air cleaner and it worked twice, now it won't fire up with it either. but ill try these other ideas. |

Quick check: pull the spark plug, let it hang from the wire so it touches something metal, and put a wine cork in the spark plug hole. Put the bike in high gear, turn the key on, and roll it until the plug sparks. If it sparks only once and the cork pops out just before it does, your problem is not the ignition and you can keep working on the carburetor. If it sparks more than once or not at all, your problem is electrical. |
