I tried it. The nipple that is on the throttle body is not a good source for a vacuum reading. |

hm. so my autometer 30"hg - 30psi vacuum/boost gauge is no good? cause when it shows 22" vacuum at idle...my scantool shows the same reading from the MAP sensor that feeds the ECM. now a boost gauge for a diesel is a different story since diesels, by nature, do not have manifold vacuum at any time. |

Ourdee, Is the vacuum port on the throttle body, ported vacuum? Why would it not be a good source? |

I hooked it up to the vacuum nipple on the throttle body. Got 0 at idle, 5 when I blipped the throttle. Nothing at 3000 rpm cruising. It is located right by the butterfly. I'm not sure why it acted that way. I put my hand over the intake. Can you say monster vacuum cleaner. Jumped to 10 before I could get my hand out of it. Ratbuell, Are you saying that you got it to work on the v-twin? |

Perhaps different years put that nipple in different places relative to the butterfly? Just hook it up at the power brake booster. That's what I did on my 1986 civic. |

I don't have a power brake booster on the Uly. |

if it is ported vacuum, it is 'switched'. you need a direct source to vacuum. drill a hole between the throttle butterfly and the injectors. tap in a nipple. attach a hose. done. haven't messed with a vac gauge on a bike yet...just saying that a vac/boost gauge gives good vac readings was all. |

I've never dealt with "ported vacuum". Can the intake be drilled and tapped without rotating the engine? |

if it were me, i'd remove the intake before drilling and tapping. metal bits flying around and all that. remove outer airbox. remove inner. remove filter and baseplate. there's the intake. remove four bolts that attach it to the heads, unplug various harnesses and lines, and out she comes. might need doublejointed wrists, but i'm pretty sure it can be done. same as replacing intake gaskets. |

I've been down to just 4 bolts left twice in the last 24 hours. I need to go get a nipple and the right tap before I go there again. I recharged the K&N on the first trip through. I took the vacuum gauge back to Harbor Freight. Will need to pick it back up. And I'll need another one of these:
for the 2" gauge. Then there will be two of them on the bar:
I have a temp. mount right now with a wire tie and 2 hose clamps. About as pretty as your cup holder. Will I need to replace the intake gaskets? |
