Yes I do Dyna. The person that give you the estimate see's only numbers going off of the info you give them.No where will it tell them why.Believe me I went round and round with a good friend of mine which was the person that did everything he could to get a good rate for me.Which he is a broker for everyone HD uses and more. |

Personally, I have a philosophical problem with Geico. I used to insure a Honda Transalp with them, and every year they'd call me and ask the same two questions: Do I own a CB radio and do I own a radar detector. I was curious and found out why. They don't care about the answer to the first question - it's just a lead-in to the second one. If you tell them that you own a radar detector, they'll decline to renew your poliy. It's a go/no-go for them. After I canceled my policy with them (I went with Progressive), I learned that Geico purchases and donates radar guns to police and sheriff's departments. The cost of the donations are tax deductible and are further offset by the increased premiums they can charge to their policy owners who get ticketed for speeding. I find such policies reprehensible. |

To all: Insurance depends on your age, location, replacement value, and how hungry the insurance company is. Progressive cost me $175 three years ago, is now $323 a year. (1995 S2) It also depends on whether the state regulators are willing to allow increases in rates. That is what happened in Michigan for Progressive. They entered the market low, and got rate increases through the state. It pays to shop around. Dave |

I understand the philesophical reasons for not using a company like Geico. I also understand that the next closest rate I received was almost 2x that amount. And that's with a perfect driving record!!! I'm unfortunately shopping with my pocketbook |

I've been reading this thread with some interest. I just called HD insurance, where my Buell is insured, to find out some specifics -- my wife paid the bill while I was out and about and I had no clue. $749.00 freaking dollars for one year and the guy said it's now Progressive Insurance. I can see paying some difference due to our near year round riding season, but gee whiz was I shocked. I pay less on a FLSTF with AllState. I need to call Geico or Dewey, Screw'em, and How. I'm going to cancel that crap with COB today. Greg |

I forgot to add: 40 years old, good driving record, no points, no claims, no accidents, good credit. I'm quite confused over this revelation. |

Heres one that maybe someone can shed light on.Dyna lives roughly 15 min. South of me and he pay's $500.00 for both his 96 Dyna and his 2001 X1.I would have to say he has a clean record and so do I.I'm almost 36yrs old and he may be 7 yrs.older then I.Neither of us are little squids anylonger. We both used Formost Insurance they took over for Insurance Underwriters.Now..... they wanted to charge me $585.00 for a 2000 M2.A less expensive bike and a year older to boot.Mind you this is for one bike he's insuring 2 bikes for less then I would Pay for my one.Something smells fishy. |

My insurance on my car was 50% less when it was registered 15 min away from where I live now. I currently pay $215-300 per bike, full coverage, little or no deduct on all the bikes. StateFarm. My bike ins rate has been about that ever since I was 22 with a 3year old Sportster. |

Maybe they figure it's just too damn cold up here in the Frozen Tundra. Little do they know I rode to work this morning and plan on riding again tomorrow |

It makes little, if any, sense. I live in a very rural area and the only possible factor is the the amount of time the insurance company says we can ride. I'm still quite astonished by it all. Greg |

Dana, thats the insurance racket for you. I have read articles in magazines where folks would call up for quotes & they would actually get different rates depending on race. There are all kinds of studies & for the most part its a roll of the dice. You & your neighbor can have identical bikes, same age, driving record etc. yet the rates will be completely different. Makes no damn difference some times. Some insurance companies go by your credit rating...thats really fucked if you ask me. Tell me why this happened, had my accident last year & yet my rate actually went down when I renewed. Only a couple dollars but still, I had an $18K claim & my ins went down?? Not bitching but still weird. |

It DOES pay to shop for insurance. When I bought my M2 in early 2000, I called several companies for full coverage and received the following quotes: Progressive - $656 Geico - $2611 BikeLine - $1928 National General(now GMAC) - $542 I'm now with Allstate for $470 a year. I signed on with them about 2 weeks before they stopped writing motorcycle policies in August 2001. This is for a (now) 57 year old, divorced, male homeowner with a clean driving record in the San Francisco bay area. If you haven't called around before sending in your renewal check - DO IT. Glenn |

All of you's- I telling you, it's all DEMOGRAPHICS and STATISTICS!!!!! If you have squirrelly twenty-something kids wrapping Buells (read: XB9's/12's) around phone poles IN YOUR AREA (I don't care if you're 50 and riding an S3T) your rate will be through the roof. Mine DOUBLED in one year (no accidents;no tickets et al) and the only thing Progressive could say was "Gee, we're sorry". SHOP AROUND! Tell your insurance company to pound sand if they won't play ball. That's the only way we can beat this thing. I got the same cverage, 2 bikes for $300.00 less from American Modern. 'Nuff said. |
