Bubba and Spidey, maybe you guys can make a training video so we can take it with when we go to our local dealers so they can have a clue. Most of these dealers don't see enuff of these bikes to get "good" at doing a TPS reset. They just "read the screen". I've been riding mine for a year with a TPS that I KNOW is not set right. But they can't seem to "get it"... at least if I had the tool, I could fiddle with it enuff that I could learn to do it. Even if it took me fifty times, it would still be worth it to me. Jody |

Jody call me today I'll tell ya something to relay to the tech's Brain Tilley hd/buell 704-872-3883 ps me and spidey in a video. we can't do that because we are already beating the women off with a stick. if we made a video we would just be looked upon as pieces of meat |

I talked to a programmer today. He seems very intrigued, but also busy... He did say he would like to talk some more but he's never done anything like this and is a bit apprehensive. I guess it mostly depends on how the system works. If the voltage value is delivered by the DT to the ECM, that makes it a bit more difficult because you would then HAVE to have logic in the program. However, if the tool just says "Hey, see the voltage you are getting through that there wire (Don't have my manual so I don't know which one), the voltage coming through it right now is "0"...". On the ethics issue, I con't necessarily mind not being able to do a reset. My problem is that if I NEED to do one, I HAVE to make a trip. For me FROM HOME this is a 45 mile trip to Mayer AZ. Not too bad. But, what if I'm on the road half way across New Mexico and for some reason my battery decides to go dead (I have a habit of leaving the lights on on my bikes). I would be pushing a frickin bike the rest of the way across new mexico after finding someone to give me a jump. Maybe I could ride it in a "limp home" mode, but then it's causing wear and tear that wouldn't happen if HD had decided to make it easy on the people paying their wages. This is VERY CLOSE to the reason I'll never buy a Saturn. I took a look into one about '99 or so and noticed EVERYTHING was covered in plastic and as I recall the plastic was attached in such a way as to require a special tool. If I remember correctly I couldn't even change a damn belt. That's just plain WRONG! It's the principal. I can see wanting the average Joe to stay out of the engine but there are a LOT of people out there that are perfectly capable. There should be an easy method that the savvy person can use to reset a TPS. Heck, maybe it's as simple as setting the throttle to the right spot and running a certain voltage to the Rx line for three seconds. If that's the case we can all do it. Well, OK, most of us... Here's to hoping. |

m1 quit worring so much and....turn the damn lights off it ain't like we are always reseting these things.I haven't reset mine for over 7 or 8k miles. and I have changed the pipe god knows how many times during the development of the drummer. what it would cost to own such a device seems like it wouldn't be worth it. trust me this tps thing has gotten carried away. |

But there's cookies in the cookie jar and we just want to have some. If they made the equipment available then few would probably want it, but since it's not available then many are seeking for the lost treasure map showing where the tps-trove be buried, argh me maties me thinks it be buried over b'hind thet rock der, argh. |

trust me this tps thing has gotten carried away. That's why I use Synthetic Oil. Also, I had mine reset at the 1000 mile service, 10,000+ miles later no problems. So, now that you mention it, you're probably right. When is the next reset due? I don't have my book with me... |

Brian - you're absolutely right, this TPS thing probably has gotten carried away. I just like to have the tools to work on my toys. Granted... It'll be 1 year 50 weeks and 6 days before my warranty runs out so I can't really do anything that requires a reset anyway. But what if I want to?? The main thing I see is that a fellow Alaskan has trouble getting his TPS reset. My warranty will probably be voided by both of the closest shops to me as they are sister stores and I didn't buy from them. The next closest is over 100 miles away. Basically, I'll probably be FORCED to do ALL of my own work. I don't want to, but I fear that's the price I paid to buy from where I bought it. I stopped by there (Dewey HD) the other day and the sales guy sneered at me. He said,"You got one eh? You know I had one on the floor..." He then gave me a WTF? look and walked away. I'm pretty sure I already don't have a warranty that's "easily" used. Oh, well... I'll try once or twice and then I'll do my own work. No biggie. I'll need a way to reset my TPS methinks though. If I don't, I'll have to truck it to them and pay full price for a TPS, probably wait a week, etc... Even though I'm being nice to them by not making them do my warranty work. Such is life... The bike ROCKS! |

If your bike is bone stock they don't have aleg to stand on. call buell customer service and make them look like crap if need be. That kinda stuff is just childess play ground crap anyway. you should have told him why you bouhgt somewhere else. I don't know why it is but you musta had your reasons. Sometimes the truth is the truth and thats that. It ain't a pretty perfect world all the time. I am not degrading you by saying this about the tps. It just seems a lil overboard to me. being that you don't need to reset it all the time |

Don't worry Brian... I wasn't degraded . I guess I just like to support the community in any way I can. I get that from being a Linux guy I guess. At the VERY least it's a conversation piece, and at the most, if you're on a run and something happens to someone else's sled that needs a reset, you're set... Also... It's a challenge. I guess a lot like trying to make a better exhaust... As far as the reason for buying where I bought... He answered my message first. I did absolutely NO shopping around whatsoever (well, there was the one sitting at Mayer HD but I had already decided to buy from Dave). That's CERTAINLY not to say I think I got anything less than excellent treatment. Quite the contrary. |

Speaking of the warranty issue; I just took my bike in and said that I wanted my TPS reset. Didn’t tell them why, and they logged it in as a customer request. When I picked it up ( I don’t know if this was the service guy’s BS line or what), he said “ We tried to get this under warranty, but they wouldn’t cover it.” Since I had my TPS reset (put on a race ECM and a pipe), do they report this service to Buell headquarters and am I marred for life on engine warranty issues? Does anyone know how does the warranty voiding process work? |

They seem to have done a superb adjustment, all for around $62.00. |

No, I couldn’t, I had to spend time at work. But I have seen it done at another time. Took about 10 minutes. The actual price was $52.00, claimed they spent over ½ hour doing it, @$85.00 /hr. They were able to get me in within 3 days and only a few blocks from where I work. |
