The Blast has an awful lot of plastic protecting that belt and rear wheel. I've checked out pics of several of your bikes that have had the belt guards removed. My question is: Has anyone had any problems with removing the belt guards/rear fender? I understand the importance of protecting the area from debris getting caught between the belt and sprocket, but, Good Gawd, that's alot of plastic covering up that good looking wheel. Any help is appreciated. Blackhat |

I am not going to recommend this because it is in direct opposition to the MFGR., however, perhaps luck, but I have driven over 10 thousand miles with no bad reports personally - inspected them again about a few weeks ago - still looks newish - lol - I think I take pretty good care of my bike and would notice wear. Thats just me, however there are others who have followed suit that have not been so lucky. the streets I live and ride on are pretty well taken care of - including the wine country area, and loose debris is rarely a problem around here - sue me - I'm spoiled - lol Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

I also removed the top guard and fender but I left the small bottom deflector in place. It seems to me that this is the most likely point of debris entry because of the direction of rotation and such. Also it is very small and doesn't look that bad. Also have not had a problem in over 10,000 miles. |

I took all my plastic off the bike almost immediately, 14,000 kms and no problems, save that my wife won't ride on the back now...which isn't REALLY a problem . |

Does anyone have the Banke Rearsets with no guard (stocker or Banke)? |

Just curious if a guard we necessary or not. Looking seriously at the Bankes and wanted to yank all that guard stuff off. Didn't want to create a potential problem though. Had I read (and paid attention to what was read) the other posts, the question would have been answered. Thanks! edited by ldbandit on November 27, 2003 |

Erik, Didn't like them?? Alloy or Rubber? Guessing alloy. I'm interested though. Dang, pistons for the Bandit, these for the Blast, roof for the house. One FULL credit card! Let me ponder everything. Will be in touch. Hugh edited by ldbandit on December 04, 2003 edited by ldbandit on December 04, 2003 |

Rubber (pegs).I liked them(quality & fit).Faster shifting, better braking, felt better cornering. Most of my riding is in traffic(rain or shine) and I didn't feel that comfortable in 'panic' situations leaning over like that. Also, because of a medical 'condition' is was rather uncomfortable leaning forward like that.I am in the (slow) process of building a set that is only 4" back rather than the standard 8" setback rearsets use. I'm in no hurry to sell them, so I offered them up as an option to paying full price for a new set. |

I'd sell mine, but when I changed my belt, I had to destroy the screws that held it on. I used a zip-tie to hold it until I got new screws. The zip-tie broke, and the upper guard rubbed on top of the pully, leaving a hole about 6 inches long ... |

Why hasnt anyone made a carbon fiber unit. You would think if american sportbike carried it we would all by em.All the other models are relativly the same so pricing shouldnt be too outrageous.Just a thought. |

So nobody has had any problems with taking off the rear fender and water? I noticed that there are several exposed wires and the battery that could get wet without the fender. Did people just tape them up or relocate the wires? I would like to be able to take mine off, but with the unpredictable weather around here, you are sometimes forced to ride in the rain. |

If you plan on riding in the rain, leave it on. If you plan on avoiding riding in the rain, take it off, keep it (wires, battery etc.) clean.Occasional water (washing & drying) wont hurt it. You could also make a hidden cover for it. (using maybe a black antifreeze bottle side). |
