All, I am interested in adding a front o2 sensor to my '08 xb12r. Reason for this is to gain the efi fidelity to help improve the performance and fueling. I have read that the ddfi3 system is on both the '08 and '10 bikes, the latter having a front sensor. I am exploring the idea of adding one on my '08. Is there any way to go about doing this? Will I need to go to a '10 ecu and main harness to make this change? Can the '08 unit support it without programming? I am considering going to a ebracing programmable ddfi3 unit, which I assume will be enough to make this work, and the addition to other intake and muffler mods. Also, has anyone else done this? Worth pursuing? Thanks! ~Ryan |

What you should be considering is getting a wide band O2 sensor and controller. You can do the tuning one cylinder at a time so there is no need to change the harness to run dual sensor. |

The 08 ECU is capable of it, but you would need to reprogram it to do it, so your best bet would be an Erik Buell Racing programmable ECM. You would then need to figure out how to incorporate the second O2 sensor in with your stock harness, which shouldn't be hard. I never actually looked into it, but I assume its just connects to another pin input on the ECM. But I second Terry's solution, it would be easier to just get a wide band sensor and controller. |

Could you elaborate for me please. I am not failure with this style of tuning. My concern is not really about wot, but more keeping the proper 14.7:1 in riding around town when temps can vary drastically between front and rear cylinders. Am I concerned about the wrong thing? What is the advantage of the wideband in tuning; ill be getting the bike properly turned on the dyno at wot. ~Ryan |

You would have to run a wire to pin #31 on the gray ECM plug from the front O2 sensor. I looked at the settings for the BUEZD ECM using TunerPro and did not see anything about enabling a front O2 sensor. There are some items pertaining to the front O2 sensor. You could pull your info from your ECM and compare it to the file that is for a bike that does have the dual O2 set up. There are at least 6 different DDFI-3 firmware files available.(BUEWD,YD,ZD,1D,2D,3D) I really don't have much experience with TunerPro or DDFI3, I am just bored at work and decided to read up on it to see what I can find. well, sounds like it is do-able, just need to figure out which firmware file would be the right one. i would like to know more about the wideband tuning setup. are you all refering to replacing the original narrow with a wideband on both the front and back? please elaborate for me. ~Ryan (Message edited by rcodea on February 18, 2011) |

Its doable... Just not in the raw files in the xdf, but if you dig on the spysite the data is their... just add it to your xdf and your golden. Designing the latout for the majority of tunerpro uses is done but a lot more can be added. I have the data and added some to my files but I finally got board with it... It works to read and write as well as live data and datalogging. It can clear codes and reset tps If you followed my add in. Its all doable in Tpro.... |

I'm about to do this and no, it's not difficult. The previous statement about pin 31 to the front O2 is correct. You'll have to order the correct pins (Amp 3-1447221-3) and integrate a wire from pin 31 to the O2. The use of PTFE wire with some snakeskin is probably best to avoid melting and chafing. I had my '08 flashed to the BUE2D firmware which has a flag to enable front O2 operation. Not sure about BUEZD. While you're at it, you might also consider running a baro sensor. You'll have to order more than a couple of pins (retailers will not sell just one), so you could even add a secondary baro to enable the ABP/baro ratio algorithm for more accurate fuel estimation. In the end, it's finding the stupid connectors that plug into these parts that slows me down. That, and not wanting to take the bike off the road for a few days while I sort out the wiring! |

BTW, I've used DIYAutoTune.com for various other projects and discovered that they have the O2 and baro/ABP sensor connectors we need. |
