"is that an early M2 tail and seat???"

You got me.I know a bit about S2's,but pretty much nothing about S1's and early M2's.

Any help on the color?

Billet Metallic is what the color name was. It was probably my favorite color on the S1's - maybe 2nd favorite, right after black...

Mike, since we are friends I can say that you suck! In all actuality, however, I am glad that you ended up with such a cool S1!

"is that an early M2 tail and seat???"

It's the S1 twin tail - seat and tail section. Back in the day I preferred the twin tail setup to the suppository of the original S1 seat, but when I rode Scott Wilson's (RIP) S1 with the twin tail setup in Germany I found his twin tail seat was way softer than I remember and kind of wished it has the original S1 seat on it.

I can probably answer any of your other unanswered questions about the bike - like how the flyscreen mounts (separate black bent sheet metal brackets on either side that 'register' with the headlight mount bolts) - all you gotta do is call...

SWEET!!!

I can tell you it has a race header and air cleaner as well as the race muffler. As 1313 listed, that's an S1 twin-tail seat and tail section. And the fender looks like a trimmed X1 fender. To make it look really good you should trim about 4" off the front and 4" off the rear and drill new mounting holes 3/4" higher than standard, and trim the mounts in the back to make it fit. That's what I did with an X1 fender on my XL1200S project that had an S2 front end.

Brankin,I agree the seat is too soft for my taste. If I keep it for any length of time I'll
have BK&D,a local upholstery shop recover it with medium density foam.
I gotta love it when I can cause you to fling profanities at me.
I'll keep you on my speed dial while I'm working on it.

Manta tank

Crossroads bars

PM wheels

Race header, race muffler, race intake

Missing rear hugger

Trimmed front fender

Billet metallic

Twintail seat and tail section

And as far as I know...at least, mine are...the crossroads bars are designed to be mounted WITH the stock upper bar clamp in place, not just four bolts. That also gives you the "right" place to mount the gauges.

Very nice looking S1. American Sport Bike has the repack kits, but I just redid my muffler with steel wool from Home Depot. We'll see how long it lasts : )

Nice S1. I might be interested in trading my bars and top bar clamp for those crossroad bars. I have an X1 I am pretty sure they would swap. I'd wanna confirm that first.

Sgtshap,I'm inclined to keep the twintail.

Nwrider,I've already ordered a top clamp off ebay that Sean turned me on to above.I kinda want to look around a bar options.I've not always been a fan of Buell handle bars.
Thanks anyway.

No worries... been planning on some woodcraft clip ons but nothing is set in stone until bolts are torqued. Even then I change my mind sometimes!

Id be curious what you decide to sell those bars for regardless ; )

Buellish....I put aftermarket bars on my 2000 X1.
the bar clearance is the same or at least close, maybe.
used some cheep bars with 1" rise. dont remember the pull back because i had to bend the pull back out of them to get tank clearance. works great!

iv got the same race muffler you got.
yes you can drill out the rivits and repack it. i recomend drilling out the forward end, easier to line up the inner tube on re assembly. Red RTV is your friend, it will help stop the rattles and seal the cap.
steel wool should work just fine. i used fiberglass insulation (because it was lying nearby). it worked, but not for to long.

Bart,I'll have to drill the outlet end as those rivets are all loose.A friend has left over loose packing that Al at American Sportbike sells.I'm going to try it.
