DAve, I had the same problem with cables. The original cable was longer than the replacement I installed. I ended up with a "spacer" that Kevin at Widmans had. It is still in and working after many miles. My replacement cable was a Motion Pro and I thought that was why it was a little shorter. Perhaps not. I wonder if H/D makes their cables or outsources them. I bet they outsource. |

Yeah the new ones are longer here. If it was shorter I would have shimmed it somehow if the adjustment wouldn't take it enough. I'll take a pipe cutter and take about 1/8" off. I just practiced on the old one and it worked out. DAve

There is an exploratory meeting next Saturday evening, the 29th, at Sue Lakebrink's house to talk about a summer tour of the Appalachian and Great Smokey Mountains in which we will try to hit all of the "extremes" in the book "Extreme Twisties of the Southeast USA...Anyone who is interested in this ride is invited to be there...Go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/MO-SIL-HSTA/ to read about it...If you are not a member of Yahoo Groups and this group you will have to sign up first...Just follow Yahoo's instructions at Groups Home...The get together is a BBQ, pot luck dinner so please bring a dish...Leave a message on the list so that Sue can plan on the meat... The road pictured above is on this tour!... See Ya! Bob edited by racerboy on November 23, 2003 |

The BRP pic was taken on the section between Ashville and Cherokee...That is where all the "high" elevations are located...The further north and east you travel the lower the road... The last pic was taken at a turn out on NC28 overlooking Fontana Lake...NC28 is called "Dead Indian Run" because it passes through Dead Indian Gap...This is one hell of a run with huge sweepers and changes in elevation... The location featured in the BRP pic is not on next summers tour but we are going to Mt Mitchell which is the highest point east of the Mississippi...It is just off the BRP in Mt Mitchell State Park and is accessed from the BRP so it may as well be on the BRP...Dead Indian Run is on the tour being planned... Sunday Road Ride, November 30th, Eureka QT 1000 Hours The wx for this Sunday is looking promising with highs in the low to mid 50's and sunshine...So let's plan to meet at the Eureka QT for a 1000 departure...That should give it a bit of time to warm up...Destination unknown but Grandma Ruby's is a possibility...I'll have to give her a call...Oh, and clear the road of pigs!... See Ya! Bob

Hey, just a quick thanks for the Sunday ride around. Hurry and get well Racerguy, we missed you. Fantastic riding weather for air-cooled motors! Roads were mostly clean and dry, not much traffic as usual where we were riding. HSTA group was really considerate for all riders except that guy on the scooter...by the time he arrived at the first gas stop in Sullivan, the rest of the group had gassed, chatted, snacked and were geared up ready to press on for lunch!! V2Win was waiting at the lunch stop and led us back via 94! Nice, very nice ride. Ughhh, except for that patch of black and white fur with a million flies hovering smack in the middle of the road... ...have to take advantage of those November riding days. |

Thanks, Kevyn, feeling a bit better... John...Our email server is not reliable so here's the info I promised...Brad has a '99/17k asking $6,400 OBO...Jeff Holdmeyer, 636.239.5186, Washington MO, 2000/8k/Yellow/$???...It's at his father, Marvin's, house...Jeff will be in town after about 5 p.m. Thursday, today... Great to see you astride "The Beast" on Sunday...Thanks for stopping...Give James a call at 314.821.5504 re the DL...He's up on all the suggested mods...The ones that "need" to be done and the "optionals" from the user lists...Cycle World is just turning their long termer back at 17 months and they just rave...I'll save the article...Psst, the DL's not nearly as ugly as the GS...Especially with the Remus pipes...It's a face even this Mother could love... Third Sunday Ride... The temps this weekend are not going to be too bad...Right now they're calling for highs in the upper forties here and even lower fifties to our south (Bixby)...But it will still be very cool first thing in the morning so let's move the start time to 1100...Also I'll plan the ride to be about an hour to a luncheon location so that those that who do not want to ride too long in this wx can beat feet after lunch...Others may choose to stay out and ride a while...Man have I got PMS in a bad way... So let's shoot for 1100 at the Eureka QT this Sunday, December 21st... See Ya! Bob |

Sunday's lunch destination will be the Hawthorne Inn in Labadie MO...We will arrive there between noon and 1230 so if you would like to arrange for someone to meet you there you can make plans...The Hawthorne Inn has very good food at very reasonable prices...The easiest way to get to the Hawthorne Inn by cage is west on I-44 and take the Hwy 100 exit to Washington MO...Go right on T and left at Labadie...The Inn will be on your left... See Ya! Bob |
