I went to pass a couple of cars and ran the RPMs up to near the rev limiter.

All of the sudden it went dead. Gauges dead. Tach dead. It just went dead.

I coasted down from my attained speed and it came back to life, backfired and relit.

Never happened before.

Where should I start looking?

Key switch?
Ignition coil?
Main harness?
Stator?

Thanks

FI or carb? Can you get it to do it again? Weren't some of these bikes subject to main power relay failure, or connection issues?

I'd check the ground strap as well.

I'd tear apart the ignition switch. They are know to overheat and melt. Eventually they just stop working. If no damage has been done from the heat yet, then clean it up real good and re-grease with some dielectric.

Totally agree with Andymnelson.... I replaced 4 in 9 years and had enough so I built a HIGH-AMP cross over and eliminated my ignition switch 100% - went to a http://www.digitalguarddawg.com now I have totally ELIMINATED those issues and better yet... NO KEY!

Kick stand switch!

+1 or maybe clutch switch if it has one fitted (some markets had them and some didn't I think).

Same thing happened to me on my old S3 and it was the kick stand switch. Remove it!

So basically what we are saying is check EVERY thing that is either mechanical or electrical on your bike....and then check everything else.
