>>> It can't. You want something to crap out in the middle of nowhere, get a piece of junk with a carburetor. You REALLY don't want to compare the reliability numbers between carburetors and EFI on Buell motorcycles. |

Erik Buell Racing has already announced plans for 3, less race focused (but with some "trickle down" technology) products. Release is expected sooner rather than later. talk to me, I want to hear more about this announcement! |

Hey Greenlanternjeep That is the best looking Buell I've seen. Those German's sure know how to design a good looking bike. ... |

Greenlantern, that would be the SX, not the AX. Wonder what the Erik Buell Racing version will look like. |

For what it's worth . . . the Typhon was a styling exercise that will never go into production. As visually exciting as the bike is there are about 211 things that would never pass muster with the feds . . in any country. In addition . . . the exercise is 2 years old. My bet is the stuff on the way will be much more exciting. The Germans, by the way, do know how to design a good looking bike. If you are unfamiliar with David Robb, you should read up on him. Heck of a nice guy and an amazing stylist. I was always amazed the he and Miguel Galluzzi were both Pasadena graduates. Good stylists are amazing. |

That new Beemer GT is an awesome ride. I can see one in my garage as a companion to my Uly. The "angel" lights are a real eye catcher and the styling while a bit shamu like in the front from some angles looks and works real well. Minimum buffeting and good airflow. " Let's find the best of the best. Know it or not . . each of you has skin in the game. " Amen to that! I eagerly anticipate the possibility that the AX will be a worthy replacement for my beloved Uly, should that be eventually necessary. |

Here is still the thing that sits in the back of my mind. If needed, who will service this thing? Since buying my XT back in 2008, I have had little need for authorized service, although it was comforting to know it was there if I did. I also feel that many who shuck out 20K or whatever that AX will cost are wrench heads that even care to provide their own maintenance. This will be, more or less, a mail-order bike if there is no dealer network in place by the time it is released. What can Erik Buell Racing do to ensure the buyers that they will be supported if they choose to go down the guinea pig route? There have been very few bikes that have even lured me into a bike shop after getting on the XT. It is next to perfect. The thought of something similar with more power... sign me up. |

HD should have let Buell go to sportbike shops nationwide...and let progressive HD dealers have them. Many of us who are not pirates would have found the Buells in other shops we frequent and been excited to by American. They would have proliferated. Maybe that is the AX plan. |

if there is no dealer network in place by the time it is released Do you really think a guy with a 300 year plan would do things that way? HD should have let Buell go to sportbike shops nationwide Guess its a good thing we don't have to worry about that anymore, huh? |

if there is no dealer network in place by the time it is released Do you really think a guy with a 300 year plan would do things that way? That is my point. We are getting excited about something that is way too far out due to lack of dealer network. Or this is going to be a very expensive "boutique" bike like the 1190rs that none of us could justify buying. Spending $22K on a multistrada or BMWGS is double what most of us spent on our XT's. It's going to be a tough nut to swallow if Erik Buell Racing releases a $40K AX for those non-typical guys who just want something nobody else can afford. At this time, Erik Buell Racing is going to keep their head above water by selling 40K boutique bikes, race parts and components for us average joes, and I think that is great. Until they ramp up to where they were at Buell MC, we are all just watching a company grow from meger beginings again. It will be a long time until we see an $11K AX or even a sub $20K bike I bet. Just my opinion, and I don't really hope I am wrong as I want to see Erik Buell Racing succeed and fast growth may not be the way to do it. |

You are going to be very happy in the relatively near future. That's just a guess but I think I am correct. Keep you eyes and ears open. Things that H-D either thought or made impossible are about to happen. |

What kind of time frame and how much do you want to bet? I can make some easy money here

I spent about that on my 06 Uly.

Thats funny, I've been to my local Erik Buell Racing dealer several times in the last few months and have already gotten some nice Erik Buell Racing goodies from them

I would love to. In my 100,000 miles of Buelling including two XB's, two 1125's, and a Blast, I've never had a fuel injection related issue. My Blast and every other carb bike and car I've touched over the years has had nothing but carb related headaches. Hard starts, poor idling, backfiring, random miss fires, random power losses, hell I've even had a backfire cause the carb to totally disconnect itself from my Blast, only hanging on by the throttle cables and fuel line. I've been stranded more times than I can count by carburetors, and never once due to fuel injection. As much as I want to collect older Buells, I am reluctant to do so other than for garage queen status. The only real issue I've ever seen with Buell fuel injection is due to physical damage do to not putting the ECM in the best place. |

Just as a random thought. If you build a product that doesn't break, then it doesn't matter if the Service network is somewhat spotty. I haven't got the slightest inkling about whether there will be a large or small dealer network. Hopefully, it won't really matter. |

I haven't got the slightest inkling about whether there will be a large or small dealer network. Hopefully, it won't really matter." The dealer network always matters - from a marketing as well as service aspect. People, especially buyers of $15,000 items they don't really need, need to touch, feel see what they are buying. and service is an important aspect of the motorcycle buying decision. Not all riders are hands-on motorcyclists. Right now Buell is selling pricey boutique motorcycles slash race bikes. I hope they make the leap to mass market production bikes, but it's really a tough nut. There's a lot of Buells out there selling for a lot less than comparable Vstroms, the Buell name seems to have been diluted by all of these cheap Buells floating around out there. Time will tell the tale, certainly, but if anyone can pull it off, I'd bet Erik could. . |

"There's a lot of Buells out there selling for a lot less than comparable Vstroms, the Buell name seems to have been diluted by all of these cheap Buells floating around out there." This is likely true but on a side note, a friend bought a new DL1000 just after I bought my XB12X. I tried to convince him otherwise but he said "look at the trouble you've had with that thing. I want something reliable." In his defense, I had some trouble getting the Buell sorted out when new but it got done and works perfectly today. My friend's DL? Catastrophic engine failure. It is a lawn ornament now. Don't use any gas, however. |

What part of that didn't make sense? The most expensive Buell on the showroom floor in 2008 was the XT at half the price of the BMW or Duc. Froggy, the only reason you may have had 22K in your Uly was that you rebuilt it 20 times. Seriously, what was MSRP on the Uly in 2006? I was on my 12s back then, so I have no idea what they were worth. But my guess is it was no where near $20K Court, I didn't get the scooter comment other than I think I am being cornered as an atypical buell owner. Nobody else liked to go into a showroom? Nobody else liked going to talk to an authorized Buell mechanic? Of course this board has allowed all of us access to so much info, it has led us to do more and more on our own. It's still nice to know a network is out there. If anything to possibly help maintain value of our purchase as well. So Court, how many dealers are on board so far? That must be the topic of another thread. And you obviously again know more info than you can share, so spit up some info. Are we going to see a sub 20K AX? I would bet 95% of the members on this board would love to have one, but would never even consider it for over $20K. Thus the reason we have only heard of a handful leave to the Multistrada darkside. Just curiously misinformed I guess. Fill in the blanks for me. |

I got the original bill of sale, I left the dealer $20k poorer on day 1. |

Froggy ... did you owe 4-5K on the trade in? I thought I recalled the MSRP on the XT being around 14-15K? Am I that old that my memory has gotten so screwed up in just a few short years. I have slept once or twice since then so maybe that's my problem. P.S. - I saw the pictures of your Uly once you did the custom blue and white look. It was beautiful. |

Yup, Crusty, MSRP was right around there. And many of us were out the door for $11,500. I got mine in August of 2008. Sorry Froggy, I never new the Uly was that expensive in 2006! Holy crap! |

Mine was more loaded up than even a stock XT. If I do get a Multi, it will cost me $30k out the door, same for a 1200GS. $44k for a Carbon 1190RS isn't that much of a stretch for me, and if I wasn't making payments on two bikes already I would be riding the RS already. |

I don't understand why anyone would pay $20k for a Uly and think it was a wise financial decision. Between an '00 X1(used), '02 X1(used), '07 Blast(new), and '09 XT(new).. I've spent a grand total of $19,941 on Buells. (that's including my OTD price for both new bikes) (Message edited by pkforbes87 on August 03, 2011) |
