I was at Deals gap and coming back across the foothills parkway i got system voltage and check engine. quick scroll 12.1 volts a rev and started charging again. few more mile volts started dropping. pulled off unplugged the headlights. and a later bump start later on i got back to where we were staying. Huge thanks to Sportbikeforhire how trailed my bike back to asheville for next to nothing. Now the real pain do i try and get it fixed under warrenty or send it back to custom rewind?? I was going to ride 735 miles back home monday this sucks.... Details on the bike had 4,800 miles since the rewind and f00 regulator. less than 1000 on an amsoil and filter change. I talked with custom rewind he shed some light on the new beta test larger gauge wire and admitted it's all trial and error. there is a chance the magnetic feild is just to strong and a new rotor may need to be installed to fix this. Gary is very stand up and will help me in any way he can. He also noted max rewinds is three the strip and baking process takes a toll on the core... |

I'd go with the bigger wire from custom rewind, or find 08 parts. |

I'd charge the battery, maybe add a spare one too, kill the lights and ride daytime, 2A charger at night. I rode a Sporty from El Paso to Houston with no generator in 1980. Stopped for gas, food and electrons every 2-4 hrs. Added to the excitement of the trip. Zack |

Im with zac4mac. Id ride it. Hell strap a car battery to the passenger pillon. I drove a suzuki sami all summer without an alternator. Id drive all day in that thing. |

I ride straight through....Have you had the battery out of yours? you have to remove the back plastic loosen the fuse box. i had planned to swap the bat out of the xb and bump start the xb to charge it and the post are reversed. temps have been high 90's i got stuck coming through the dragon and soon as the fans came on the bike begin to cut out...it made it 20-35 miles without the head lights (Message edited by R/T_Performance on July 27, 2011) |

Honestly, buy a car battery, strap it on the pillon, and wire it in parrallel. It would be way cheaper than hauling it and you would have an extra battery for something when you get home. |

1125 stators are oil cooled. It is my opinion that heavy epoxy coating trap the heat in the stator and break down the varnish on the wire used to wind stators.I also think the rotor magnets are too strong and am trying larger gage wire on my own stator windings and output leads with all connections soldered to reduce resistance.Switching type RRs are better at reducing stator heat and I also believe our bikes are sensitive to oil levels.My own harness upgrade cut out the lowest leg,putting the most heat in the poorest cooled legs so I removed it.I do have a 08 parts bike but have decided to run my rebuilt 09 stator to try to get to the bottom of this.I may also try diverting some of the return oil from the cooler into the stator cover. |

+2 on the spare battery to get home. There's a ride report at ADVrider where a guy completed a ~30+ day ride in Mexico on an old Honda with a bad alternator (PC800 or Goldwing, I forget which) using an auto battery and a battery charger. He could go a full day on the battery and then re-charge it every night. Admittedly it's a lot easier to put a battery in a saddle bag, but I'll bet you could figure a way to strap it on the back. |

The only positive thing about this thread is that you were using wire that was smaller than stock. That means it should of burned up faster than the OEM. I fried my CR stator in 700 miles but now I have larger Gauge wire we'll see how it does! I have about 200 miles on it so far I should have about 3k on it in the next month or so... |

Just pissed mine hadn't burned up at 10k on the stock stator.. Did this expecting to be a long term fix |

Well crap. I'm having issues with System Voltage too. I have not changed the VR yet. I think this is the issue with mine, but how long will the stator last? I get sys error, no display etc. then the display will start working after about 3 minutes or so. Charging is showing 13.2 to 13.9 after the display comes back. What to do? |

Interesting thought about the rotor. How many magnets in it? Machine or remove some magnets to drop the field strength to 08 levels? Maybe increase clearance on circulation of oil? The right solution may be a strategically pointed oil passage or jet... |

well i have made calls i can not get a new stator sent to me the closest place is 6 hours that has stock 09 stator. my home dealer has 3 in stock and agreed to over night one if i take it to a dealer here. the bad closet buell dealer is 2 hours away. or i pull it and send it to custome rewind and try the larger gauge wire...... go fast thats over volts regulator is cooking. if you don't fix it fast your headlights will be burned out. |

I'm not sure 13.9 is over volts.... its high, but I think the system might go as high as 14.2, and under some circumstances I think the battery can safely see 15V. |

It's parked till I get a new voltage regulator. I've got maybe 2K miles since the Custom Rewind. Mine is wrapped to the 2009 specs and harness upgrade removed. |

Dang it! I hate to see my friends having issues like this. Rob 1, you're a little too far away for me to be of any help other than poor advice. Rob 2, I can come by your place on mine if you want something to compare yours to. I have the same VR, obviously, and I still owe you 20 bucks and a memory stick. I can bring my electrical manual for the bike and my Fluke meter, and we can figure out what is going on. |

Bikes dropped off. Btw full charged battery to ride the 108 miles had to stop half way and charge agian off the car....made it with in one mile and got caught at a red light bike cuts off at 10 volts had to charge it agian to make it to the dealer. |

Thanks Danny i have alot bigger one than thats at home..with only the taillight and cooling fans i could barely make it 60 miles of course its hot here today but you need headlight to ride at night. Really hope the thick wire stator is the long term fix But Gary really seems to sound like the magnets are going to need to be modded he also said as long as were working with him he will try to get it figured out. If he doesn't i hope the new mods on the 1190 fix it but with most them how many are really going to get ridden. I have nothing bad to say about custom rewind gary is one of the few who really wants to help us. I am super aggravated by this whole situation...This is my first new vehicle ever and i can't trust it....Seariously i drove my 1993 beater dodge truck to nc twice and wisconsin and never had a issue |

Not the cheapest solution but the 08 parts seem to be the longest lasting. I dont remember reading about any that have failed.... |

It took me years to trust my S1. I got it when it was 1 year old 7,000 miles. belts and motor mount bolts on the front cylinder. Once it got sorted out I took it anywhere. I will take it anywhere now and it has 95,000 miles! The 1125 sorting process is taking its time but it will happen. The postings by posplayr seems to think the stator will run cooler with a series design R/R like the compufire. |

I have an 08 and just installed the Compu fire VR in mine. Must say that my charging system works 10x better than the stock VR or the FH00 one. I wonder what would happen if you went with the 08 rotor and kept the 09 stator. (Message edited by cataract2 on July 29, 2011) |
