Hi all, I don't mean to be rude but,I have a problem and will introduce myself more later. My son got a 2000 Blast and he's dying to ride it (so am I). It sat and was dumped awhile back. Here's where we are- Changed gas, premium. Cleaned carb-more on this later. Changed das boot. New plug-gapped.040 Cleaned carb(again) changed to .045 jet ,has 165 for the other one. Found mixture screw this time, set to 2-2 1/2 turns out. Changed the ?pick up coil?? (for timing). I'm lost, idles ok but as soon as you touch the throttle she wants to die no nothing. If I hold the slide up and twist the throttle it seems to work.Still,it spits some dropplets out the carb. New plug is sooty black. It's a HD plug. I have set the float but am not sure on this, kind of a screwy way to set it. Could it need a diaphram? I don't know what else to try. ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.... |

New plug sooty - is it getting spark? Is plug wire good? Does the ignition light stay on when running? If yes to booth then I would suspect either the enrichner or slide - use the diagnostics in the manual. EZ |

Hit my profile, go to my bike's website, then go to my bikes group, join and then hit the files section - for educational purposes. Take a jewelers screwdriver, pop off the ignition cover, turn bike over, if ignition light flashes, then it is delivering the signal for spark. EZ |

Yes it is. I'm wondering if it's running way to rich.We started it it ran, reved up a couple times then the same thing. I shut off the gas and tried to start it a few times and when it started to empty the bowl ran ok and reved up as the fuel got eaten up?????? |

Try unhooking the carb electrics - I bet its the en-richner drowning you out - these bikes sit unused so long - EZ |

Which one is that? Can I disconnect the plug for both components, one is white and I think the other is black. |

welcome Poppa! Did you remove the diaphragm cover? It almost sounds like you pinched it, as when you hold the slide up it will rev and if it was pinched it would not lift up. If you have never removed the diaphragm cover before and replaced it you will see it takes a bit of finaggling to get the cover on and the diaphragm lip in the groove all the way around. |

fOUND NEW PROBLEM,RELATED. The spark is all over the plug,on the sides ,trying to go towards the top,NOT in the gap. Tried three different plugs,2 HD and a NGK. Same thing. When I first started it it reved up ,now hard to start and runs like crap (obviously). Just bad plugs or something else???? |

You are saying the spark is going UP the insulator? Is your spark plug gap too large? The plug body is grounded while you are cranking it correct? If the above is correct, you have a bad plug, the resistance for the spark to jump the gap is more than running up the side of the electrode. |

I will go buy a couple more today. Three bad plugs in a row, that's my luck lately. |

New plug looks like it's ok. Still, only idle with tps/enricher plugged in. Nothing with them unplugged. No rev'ing unless I just pick up the slide/needle. Ready to shoot it..... |

Well that slide is not working for a reason. Make sure nothing is blocking the vacuum inlet hole on the intake side. Make sure vacuum line is pluged, boot on correctly, spray a little starting fluid around the manifold to engine connection, and listen for an rpm change, also check for an exhaust leak. You could be missing a carb part as well. EZ |

Slide goes up and down(like it's bouncing) by itself, when I raise it manually the carb seems to work, somewhat, like it is suppose to. If we don't get it this weekend,I will probably take it in. It does us no good just sitting there,I think we are on the right track but,I have too many projects going at one time.Time to go work on the beast. |

Yippy Skippy,it'a alive. Told the boy to get a manual right away. Looking at the diagram, whoever worked on this carb before, didn't remember where the needle jet was suppose to go. They had it in the same "tube" as the slowjet, just sitting on the bottom. Didn't think it looked right but, never worked on one of these carbs before. New problem, she seemed to idle REALLY high on the maiden voyage. Got back and she was spitting some oil out the front, top of the motor. Second trip, idled fine, quite pleasant to ride actually. Could this "oil" (seems more like a mix of oil and gas),be from us trying to run it the way it was and is now just blowing itself out? Thanks for all the help too. |
