Just removed my forks to get them rebuilt (blew the seals) before my 2 day trip to the track next week. I noticed my EBC extreme performance pads (race pads) were pretty worn. I also noticed on some of the pads that the wear was uneven. The pads were worn down more near the pin that holds them in then they were on the other side. I think this may be due to residue on the pins preventing that side of the pad from fully releasing (got new pins). Anyways, I lightly sanded the surface of the extreme performance pads but then remembered the EBC HH pads I had stored away were fairly new. Took a look at them and they were significantly thicker and with no uneven wear, they looked nearly new. I just installed a new master cylinder and run in the A group so I will be pushing the brakes fairly hard. Would I be better off installing the worn race pads or the HH? |

Depends on the track... I burned up a whole set of EBC Race Pads on a practice day when we were doing braking drills. I was on a bone stock 1125r, which is really heavy compared to the race bike, but still... Pick up a set of fresh race pads is probably the best answer. I also get uneven wear, btw. |

Neither--try out the Dunlopad SDP993 pads. It's their HH+ compound which has great initial bite and stopping power, as well as low dust. (I keep saying that anyone who says they prefer EBC pads simply hasn't tried anything better, and the Dunlopads are definitely better.) I haven't been able to find any internet resellers who stock Dunlopad brakes, but this guy on Ebay has them. Sweet! Those do look nice. Just got back from the track, the Extreme performance pads worked great but are ready for replacement. I was going to put the EBC HH back on for street use but I am actually thinking I might keep the slicks on (going down to school next week) and try to hit the track whenever I come back (October most likely) so perhaps I'll order up a set before then to toss on the bike. |

Be careful running track tires on the street. You probably already know this, but they will be slippery until they get hot, and they may take a while to warm up at street speeds. I ran Dunlop 207GPs on my sv650 for a season. They were fine during the hot summer, but once it cooled off, I wasn't happy with the grip available during commuting. |
