Hi everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself. A couple of weeks ago I sold my 1973 340 Dodge Challenger Rallye (quadruple black) that I'd owned for 12 years and feeling an urgent need to fill the gap, within a week bought unseen on Ebay, a 2008 1125R. I got it at a good price but what interested me in it was the 2010 engine (with site glass) that was fitted under warranty last year, the bike has around 4,600 miles on the clock and the engine was fitted 1,200 miles ago. I was so eager to get the bike that the day after my offer was accepted, I drove to the other end of our little country (Dundee in Scotland) and back in one go. A 950 mile round trip that took me 18 hours through the day, night and morning. You guys in the USA are probably used to trips like that! I probably wouldn't have managed it without my 2.7 CRD Grand Cherokee, 40mpg too on the way up with an empty trailer, great car. (As you can probably guess I like American motors). I've just got in from another great evening ride on our little twisty British roads and I'm really getting attached to the Buell. I have a few minor issues which I'll post about in the right forums, but I'm getting such an affection for the 1125R I just wanted to say hello and join up in a forum with others who feel the same. Cheers, Martin. |

If it has the 2009 or later engine then the stator will fail, sorry. wish I could be the bearer of better news, and it will be very expensive, very, very expensive. |

Welcome! lucky you and your sight glass!! Don't sweat the stator - mine is almost 8k no issue, but keeping an eye on it. I don't think it's *that* expensive if you get it rewound w/ higher temp and larger guage wire. If you can work a wrench and not paying shop rates to get it done of course. Which is one of the things i really enjoy about my 25R - it's super easy to work on. Quirks of course, but well thought out mostly. and i'm not a mechanic by any stretch... Post pics or you don't really even have a motorcycle! |

I was watching that bike on eBay and was wondering who bought it. I'm in Kent but have biker friends in Hemel Hempstead so always up that neck of the woods, I'll send you a message and maybe we can meet up when I'm up there next. I do hope your handy with the spanners though, these bikes are quirky |

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Yes I 'm learning the bike is quirky lol. I broke down on my ride last night. The bike was misfiring when I started off, it had been running fine the last time I rode it on Sunday so assumed that washing it on Monday night had left some ingress of water. It didn't improve and the engine fault light kept coming on. When I stopped at traffic lights it stalled and each time I restarted it and tried to pull away it stalled. It turned out that the side stand cutout switch was working the wrong way round!!! I could pull away with the sidestand down but in gear with the engine running it showed a side stand warning when the stand was up, this disappeared if I put the stand down. I got home by wedging some paper between the stand and the switch mounting and will have a look at it tonight. What's the issues with the 2010 engine, I thought it was a better more sorted engine? |

Here's a pic of my 1125R. Also the previous owner fitted the Buell 1125R Resistor plug, Y0248.1AM which makes it possible to disconnect the active intake air system solenoid on the 1125R, without getting an error code. Is this a good idea?

Yes. Disconnecting the air solenoid is almost a mandatory modification to these bikes. I don't have the sidestand switch so I don't know much about the issue your are having. Welcome! |

You will continue to love this bike. Best decision I've made in many years buying Buells. Cheers, Steve. |

Tyre: I have an '08 and am very happy with it. My only piece of advise is to make sure to do some track days on it. This is the only safe way to really appreciate the full potential of your new ride. I did my first one about a month ago, and it increased my satisfaction level to another realm. She was designed to be flogged and keep begging for more! |

If you buy an Erik Buell Racing ECM the sidestand switch will be disabled... The 1125 doesn't really need one, when my spring snapped I didn't notice the stand was down until exiting a roundabout... On another bike that might've been pretty scary, but the 1125 stand is designed to fold back up in the event you (a) forget to raise it before setting off or (b) have spring snap. AFAIK the 2010 motor is no different from the 2009 (apart from the sight glass). My comment was w.r.t the stator failure some 2009's are experiencing. It's not neccessarily "inevitable" but it's a higher potential issue on 09/10s than 08s... But it's not worth worrying about until something happens (if ever). It'd be worth checking to see if the sub-harness has been installed...as you have a newer motor. Quick question for the more knowledgable amongst you - would it be normal for a transpant to a 10 model to include the revised injectors too? |

Jules, the 2010 motor also had different piston linings, cam chain guides, headers, and some other tweaks. |
