The old school trick is to take a dowel, maybe 2 feet long, and put one end just below your ear. Place the other end at selected spots on the engine and tranny until you identify where the sound is coming from. That may help you narrow it down. Obviously this only works with the engine in neutral or bike on a stand .... Grinding noises = usually not good.
