i found a company specializing in vehicle electronics interface cables, data convertors, and diagnostic devices. if we can generate some interest, they may possibly engage in a low volume production run of a simple tool with which ddfi owners can calibrate our ecm to closed throttle tps value. my point here is that if several of us seem ready to spend some money on such a device, they just may help us out. B&B electronics (815) 433-5100 mpalmer@bb-elec.com or custom@bb-elec.com so maybe give these guys a sales incentive if you have the time. thanks, dean |

im probably way out of my league here. but are we just looking for the connector/cable to interface with a computer? if so, cant you just wire one up to a serial port and write some code for the input/output?

ok i found another outfit that may help us out. the R&D man is jwelke@technoresearch.com maybe these guys can build a cheapo version of a scan tool.or an adaptor to allow a regular automotive device to work. send 'em a kite. dean |

I can talk to our team of programmers and see if any are willing to donate time. We have some good ones that would most likely be interested. I'll check it out. |

I just left a voice-mail with one of our programmers. He'll probably get back to me on Monday. |

Brian was saying that the TPS needs to reset when the battery is disconnected. I may interested also, but need to know how much we are talking about. |

I have never had a bike in the shop. Don't want to start now. Not even for something as minor as a TPS reset. I have 850 miles on my XB12R and want to do mods this winter. Will probably be going with drummer, race ECM, and K&N filter. Count me in. Fuzz edited by fuzz331 on November 15, 2003 |

off the top of my head i cant imagine that it would be that difficult to capture the signal from the bike to the port. now im gonna have to say that it couldnt be that difficult to send a signal back out to the bike but it may take some use of a scanalyzer allready or at least someone who is quite knowledgeable with them.

i dont need to get real fancy, just want my race ecm to work, i already own the part, now i want to be able to use it. it took a few (many) tries to dial in the jetting on my various carburetted toys, so i dont mind dinking around a bit with my tps/zero function. just need to find the tool for the job. |

As far as price, I would much rather release the software for free along with instructions to make the harness. All you would need is laptop or maybe a PDA running Windows CE. I would much rather see it on a PDA, but the wiring would be a bit more tricky as I don't think most of them have a standard serial port... Of course, I "probably" won't be the guy making the software "if" this project even gets done so I'm sure the programmer would have something to say about it. He seems all interested in the open source community though (read Linux)... |

M1, All PDAs have standard COM serial ports, especially the Windows ones. I too think this would be the best way to go if you knew what you needed to tell the ECM. But that is still the biggest problem here is that we dont unfortunately. ;o) Cya Stot |

there is a real good chance that the com protocol and reset parameters are the same for the stock and race ecm units. so we should have a fairly good sized pool of spare stock ecm's to practice with. now we need a cooperative Dealer to hook up the factory service equipment to either a bike or a disembodied ecm with power and a tps connected, then somehow monitor and record the whole conversation. next step? |

Glitch Actually Aprilia uses a cartridge for the gameboy to adjust the DiTech sr50 cc scooters. It would be gerat if the Buell owners had an option like that for minor adjustments. |

I bet if you look closely, their special cartridge has its own special connector, and they are using that. I doubt they are using the gameboy link connector... But I have no facts to back it up. |

found some OTC monitor elite tools on ebay. if some buell tech can look at these and tell me if it is the same as the Harley Digital Technician HD-44750. then i just need a part number for the buell cartridge. any anonymous info available? |
