Frank, I picked up a stocker this spring on ebay, and when I received it was broken around the inlet flange. I made a couple of small plates to weld in and so far all is good, no more signs of cracking. If you know anyone handy with a tig welder it should be an easy repair. See you in a week, Mike |

What is APRS? If you are so inclined http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Packet_Repo rting_System My call sign is K0JQZ and for the purpose of APRS it is K0JQZ-10. I will also be using my new zumo 660 (the 550 did not meet my needs) and the quest II was getting a little long in the tooth. The 660 was one of my presents to myself to provide incentive to quit smoking. (one of them LOL) I have been smoke free for 38 days today. See you all soon. Brad, see you sooner........ |

Scratch the tracking idea. Apparently the equipment cannot stand the vibration of the V twin. Crap. Too late for plan B. |

I hope to have the "new" system installed and working sometime before I actually leave Christmas. The easiest answer is the SPOT System. I know a few people that use these systems, there is a fee but I think it is only around 100 to 150 a year. Here is the link in case anyone is interested: http://www.findmespot.com/en/ Jack, ride safe and see you soon. Frank |

Jack, that would be great. Just so you know where I will be. Somewhere near Alliance NE or Custer Park SD the first night (Monday night). Mitchell SD KOA the second night (Tuesday Night). Brad's house on Wednesday Night in Maple Grove MN and somewhere between Duluth MN and Christmas MI thursday night..... Jack, I will assume you are taking a more direct route so ride safe and see you soon. Spiderman, it begins. Get ready. |

I discovered a gas leak yesterday (I was wondering why my milage started to go down to 200 miles before reserve (normally it is closer to 240 or 250 depending on me). I imagine it will be less at sea-level. The gasket looked ok although it most likely needs to be replaced (I got to order some of those things) however, the plastic thing on the bottom held on with a 10mm nut was pretty loose so it would allow it to leak when coming to a stop and flowing through the front of my tank bag (good thing I wrap most things in plastic in the tank bag). Now, back to organizing what I am going to pack on the bike. Frank |

Sitting by my tent in big timber Montana Hwy 12 from Olympia to Montana then i-90 to here. So far I knocked off one saddle bag on a trailer bumper. Fixed that but lost my front brakes mostly. Tried bleeding but it seems the master cylinder needs a rebuild kit. There is one in rapid city SD. I will try there tomorrow. Peace out. Shane |

Shane, I hope they have what you need. I do not have one in the garage otherwise I would bring it just in case. I bet that was hairy when you found out that your front brakes were gone. Seems that you are making great time. I just finished packing and will head out in the late morning. Frank |

Man.........these are works in progress......Mmy rear brakes are just barley working......fluid was added.will try bleeding tomorrow. Hope this is the last of fix-it posts. Shane.....good luck in getting the kit and installing it. Grand Junction has a large dealer. I could swing by that way it your SD one dosn't come through......just a thought. I am in Delta Ut......staying at one of the worst motels I have ever been in, but was too tired to continue. Still taking "back roads".........may have to change that. |

Shane, Brad says no problem. It started raining when I left the house this morning. I think I can count how many times we got rain in the morning. Seems like it was every time we were headed out on a trip. I dodged rain all the way but it was clear skys for a bit around Alliance NE and Car Henge. I skirted the weather for a while but my luck ran put and I got caught in a downpour. There was no where to pull over to put rain gear on so I kept going. Once I was wet I decided to go as long as I could and to forgo camping in favor of a hotel room. The back roads of NE suck for places to camp and decent hotels...... SD is not much better. I think I did close to 600 miles today which is about 200 more than what I wanted to do. Now a tornado alarm is going off..... Seriously? |

Just an update, Shane got his brake fixed and I am waiting for him to cover the 100 mile distance between us so I expect we will both be on the road in a few hours heading to Mitchell SD (we are staying at the KOA). Jack, in case you have not spread your wings yet today, the weather forecast is scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms your area pretty much all day today. High is predicted at 76 degrees. The chance of storms of course will increase later in the day. You know where we will be at and our phone numbers if you are so inclined to hookup with us. |
