*claps*

*hears quite a few echoes*

Anyone alive? Or just out riding?

My weekend:
- New Q2s installed on the 1125. New rubber is so awesome.
- New front brakes installed on the 1125 - Lyndall Golds, they seem pretty nice so far, but time will tell - new rubber, so I haven't really gotten on them terribly hard yet.
- I apparently have a clutch weep. Again.
- My belt needs replacement - it has a bunch of cracking, so I'm going to replace it before it fails on me.

Also, PitBull stands come with a label that says, "This stand will outlast your bike." I see zero reason to argue - they're truly massive pieces of metal. I highly suggest them - American made, and I expect will quite literally last a lifetime.

I have not been riding, except to work. Anthony flopped his SV down on the pavement at a low speed, bending handlebars, breaking a bracket or two, denting the tank, and inexplicably making the entire thing just not work. Turn on the key and nothing happens. I dropped it at Moto-Authority for them to check out and they haven't diagnosed it yet. He's ok, so we're just waiting.

Meanwhile, I'm putting new rubber on the Uly and planning my 3000 mile trip in July. I'm riding out to Alabama to see my brother commissioned in the Air Force and to visit some friends. Speed course out and slightly more scenic route back. Considering an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 to start things off, Memphis being 1000 miles from here. We'll see.

have you checked his bike to see if there is a bank angle sensor? sometimes (esp on buells) if the angle of the bike becomes less than like 20 degrees, there is a sensor that kills the engine until it is reset. My CBR has one, but it works a bit different. Mine will kill the engine if it is angled too much, but allows the bike to re-start once it is vertical again. found that out while I was taking off all the useless parts like headlights and what not.

Thanks, Adam. I have not thought of that but will mention it to the techs.

On another note, I'm always distressed by the fires in NM and especially in the areas we like to ride. Look at this map of the Las Conchas fire and see where it is. It's all along NM4 from Valles Caldera up through Bandelier. That's the prime area we like to go.

CJ, if you are going to Alabama try to find time to visit the Barber Motorsports Park and Museum. Is you brother stationed in Montgomery? That is where most of my relatives live and where my parents grew up. It is very hot and muggy during July, by the way.

I've been pretty busy riding.
Just got back from a 3400 mile ride through Utah and Colorado with Debbie, and our friends Kelly and Lisette.
Great times, lots of snow still in Colorado!
Riding to work the past few days, I've been getting a "system voltage" error on the 1125. Bike keeps running fine, but the display shuts down and the tach sticks at 2500 RPM. I switch the key off and back on while still moving, and it comes back on, but shows a voltage of 18VDC, not good...
I'm thinking it's the VR. I'm on my second stator and VR, still got 5 months of warranty left, but not looking forward to letting some Hardley tech touch my bike.
Thinking of buying an aftermarket solid state VR.
CJ, glad to hear your boy is ok, i agree with the BAS, not sure if the SV has the same system, but it's worth a look. Have fun on your trip!

Are you retired Bart? I dont know where you find the time for 3400 miles... what year is your 1125? I havent had any VR or stator issues on my 1125 ('08) my only issue has been the dreaded clutch weep like Syonyk.

My fiancee's son is coming to town tomorrow for about 7 weeks, so I probably wont be riding too much as I will be spending time with him while he is here, and he is deathly afraid of motorcycles...so he wont be riding on one ; )

As for the fires, I too am a bit disheartened. I like that route for riding too, but nature has its ways of starting over. I had plans on heading up to Jemez Springs for some hiking/ trails in a few weeks, depending on the weather and amount of fire up there, we may not go. I was looking forward to taking a nice dip in the cool water near the jumps.

it probably means they closed the tram too... that sucks. I am sure there are some people who are having an issue with this as they work on the mountain. with a lack of access to it, they are all losing out on money.

that doesnt affect those of us who lead sedentary lifestyles ; ). I should get back into running. Why run when you can ride though ; )

Yeah... that's really something! That guy nearly got his head knocked off!!

Meanwhile, I got a new Pirelli Angel on the Uly yesterday, so I took it up to Durango today for lunch. I was "scouting locations" for the rally. I really only stopped in to one place which I really liked, but which is TOO expensive. I'm on to plan B or C or whatever, now. Need to pick out some routes, as well.

CJ,

Sometimes its better to pay a little more and go with the better place. Some of those cheaper places are really run-down... I've been to Durango a few times and if you want to experience the charm of the town, there's no place like the General Palmer or the Straitor hotels... historic places right on the main drag. The palmer even has enclosed parking in the rear.

Makes it easy to walk to other establishments... Places near the main drag are convenient.

How expensive is TOO expensive? As you know, you may have to pay extra to get a decent place - especially in a tourist town like Durango.

How do you like the Pirelli Angels? I'm about to get new tires for my BMW... just curious what you think so far.

Doug, we do not have a group ride on Friday. That's arrival day. However, since you need to pass this way anyway, you could come up late Thursday and stay over with us if you want then ride up with us on Friday. Or, depending on how long it takes, you could meet up with us on Friday mid-day and still ride up with us. Most people arrive late afternoon and Durango is less than three hours from here.

Nick, first off, I only got the rear Angel because my front Diablo Strada still had ample tread life. The rear had too many loaded miles and I think too many at inadequate inflation. After 7000, it was done. First impression on the new Angel is favorable. I've only had it through a couple of curves to scrub off some of the new-ness, but seems pretty good. Really felt nice on the long highway ride.

My stop in Durango was to the Strater hotel. Mainly because it was on main street near everything and looked pretty cool, rustic, quaint. I prefer that to the average Ramada or whatever. The gal had availability for 15+ rooms but the group rate was $179/night plus 9.9% tax. The rooms all have a queen and a twin. Cool place, but that seems steep. Even those sharing would be paying a hundred a night for half a room.

I have not checked the General Palmer, yet. The Strator has parking in the rear as well as street parking, they have restaurants, etc to accommodate us for our group gatherings, they include a free breakfast, etc. Talked to Dave Kaminen yesterday via email and he thinks $179 is too much. I also think it's high. I'm going to continue shopping and see what else is available. I'll let you know.

CJ,

I know it may preclude walking to dinner, but what about finding a place north of Durango, a lodge type of place that may not be as expensive? That would put us on the highway closer to all the hills for the Saturday ride.

I've only been through the area once, so I really don't know what it is like. I can't afford to spend $100 per night. As far as tourists towns go, meh. If there is a lodge or resort with a good restaurant and nearby gas I'm fine. Maybe some folks would rather take a shorter trip on Saturday to spend time in Durango itself.

Up to my spending limit I am flexible, though.

Well, I'm now working on a deal at the Durango Mountain Resort. Not sure yet what the rates are.

Jody, I recommend finding a friend to share with. That's the only way the cost goes much lower than that $100/nt.

$179/night is definitely steep. You can get the Double Tree or the Holiday Inn along the river for less...

getting under $100 is probably going to be real tough in Durango.

Hey all, sorry to sway off of the Durango topic, but I stopped in to see Zia Graphics today and saw their set-up. I think they will do very well as far as making the patches. I put $100 down toward the order of 50 4" patches. The other $242.50 will be due at pick-up. I can accept payments now, or...we can wait until they are completed before I start taking orders. Either way, I want to set up an orderly way to do it so no one is forgotten ; )

let me know what you guys think is best. I was just thinking of making a new thread where everyone can place their orders, but since we all use this thread as a sort of run-on topic for all things New Mexico in nature, that may make the topic harder to find. I will supply my paypal info when we decide what to do.

I can give you some money soon. So, it's 342.50 for the total for 50 patches? That's $6.86 per patch. How many patches are people going to buy?

I'm in for four - guaranteed...possibly five or six (have to see if the wife wants a couple). You should round-up as necessary to cover any incidental fees, tax etc. I am sure folks will understand.

Fronting the money is always a bit of a risk and I hope everyone appreciates your initiative. So... A big THANKS!

alright, well, my paypal is under the email address agfish18@yahoo.com if you want a patch, or multiple patches for that matter, they are $6.86 ea (I am sure you all know how to come up with prices for more than one). Shoot me an email and tell me how many you want, then hit me up on paypal. I will throw together a spreadsheet to keep track of everyone's orders. When they are in, I will notify everyone, and we can arrange pick up/ delivery options.

if any of you have issues with paypal, let me know, we can work something else out.
