Tim will be there Sunday. Our daughter will do all his farm work, allowing him to go out and play. Bright eyed and bushy tailed.
LaFayette, hope to see you there.

Brian,

We talked about shifting back to Saturdays. Maybe that way more can regularly attend. Do y'all run classes on Saturdays too?

I am riding Sunday for sure. Rain, shine, with the group, or solo. Maybe we can decide on Saturday or Sunday rides for the future. Hope to see you all out there.

I left my house on the Ninja 1000 this morning at 6:45. The weather report was favorable, but I noticed some rain on radar already building up out in the Gulf. At 7:00 I arrived at the Palmetto BP to meet TL Zane. He was ready to ride so we jumped on the Super Slab and headed north. Traffic was light on I-75 & I-4 and the temperature was slightly cool. This made for about as pleasant a ride as one gets on the Interstate.

We arrived in Lakeland at the gas station within sight of the Harley-Davidson dealer around 8:00. Some other participants were there gassing up, Buell Jim, C14 "Camera Nut" Mike, and lo and behold, there was 675 Triple Golden Boy Craig. We gassed up and chatted with Craig who was eating Oriole cookies (breakfast of champions?). Then Ully Steve appears out of nowhere, smoking his pipe. His breakfast of choice: peanut butter crackers!

We are on a diagonal across the street from the Harley dealer which is next to a Waffle House diner. Craig spies CLAUDE sneaking into the Waffle House, presumably for a pre-ride meal! So, Claude is here too!

We get our helmets back on (not me) and ride over to the HD dealer. There are a bunch of bikes already there, plus another Tampa Crasher member surprise guest!

More later........

We park our bikes and dismount. Claude is sitting at a table with the Buell Ride regulars. I go over and say hello to all. At the table are Buell Harry, Buell Jim, C14 Mike, and Ride Leader, C14 Tim.

Then another rider arrives on sort of a street fighter silver SV1000S. I don't recognize the rider, but when he takes off his helmet, the gray leathers and the face are familiar. It's SV1000/GSXR1000 Orlando Gary! He's lost a bunch of weight and is looking good. His SVK has a new look after a close encounter of the deer kind.

Several riders ask me about my new Ninja 1000. After about a thousand miles on the bike, I have nothing to say but good things about the Ninja. Later I tell Claude it may be my best motorcycle ever.

So, the players in today's ride are:

Buell Claude
Buell Ully Steve
Triumph 675 Triple Craig
TLS1000 Zane
SV1000 Gary
Buell Harry
C14 Tim
Buell Jim
C14 Mike
And yours truly

There was also another young fellow and his girl on a nice Buell, but they departed early in the ride when the pace picked up.

When we started the ride with C14 Tim in the lead, I stayed in the back with Claude behind me. I figured I could move up in the group later if I wanted to. I also figured Claude wouldn't be hanging behind me for long.

Tim had told me we were headed to the San Antonio area: the ride was on!

More later..........

The Ride begins. It soon becomes apparent to me that my place in the rear is well chosen. Our leader, Concours Tim is leading a very brisk pace on some excellent roads. These are all highly skilled riders and I have to hustle to stay with the group. I am behind my old riding friends Ully Steve and TL1000 Zane and this works well for me.

As the ride progresses, C14 "Camera Man" Mike falls back from the leader group to behind me to record the group from the rear. I get the feeling he can pass me whenever he likes, but wants to "film" the riding action from the rear for a while. Also, fast guy Claude decides he's had enough of being last and moves up into the leader group. See ya!

We hit some great roads at a lively pace on our way north. A partial list: Kathleen Rd, Socrum Rd, Old Polk City Rd, SR54, Berry Rd, Old Lakeland Rd, Clinton Rd, Prospect Rd, SR52, Old Pasco Rd, Curly Rd, Bayhead Rd, Bellamy Bros Rd, Powell Rd, CR577, Blanton Rd, Jessimine Rd, etcetera.

C14 Tim had a fine ride route and maintained a pace that later Claude said to me was, "just right". High praise indeed, from Claude, the man who set the standard of Brooksville group rides for the Tampa Crashers and me back in the late '90s.

After about 1 1/2 hours of great riding, Tim made our first stop. At that point, it was time for me to head back south to Bradenton. I thanked all the riders and said my goodbyes. I can tell you this, that 1.5 hours was packed full of riding fun. Kudos to Tim, the Lakeland Buell gang, and my riding buddies from the Crasher group for a great day.

I headed south back to Bradenton on the Interstate. Of all things, when I was almost home, I was delayed on 41/301 for ten minutes by the danged Tropicana freight train backing up. I did get home at 11:30 with 225 miles traveled today. It was 84 degrees and no rain on the radar! Not too bad.

I'm now on my 3rd adult beverage and ready to head to the family BBQ. Life is good; thank you all!

Quick vid today gang. Helmet cam crapped out for some reason, recording only 1 second each time I thought I was starting the cam, so most of the tasty roads are lost to memory. Salvaged the first hour with the GoPros and caught a couple squidly moves on film.

So significantly less footage than usual.

Enjoy...

Sorry about the double post. Duh!

Let that be a lesson to you guys; don't drink and drive,.......er, I mean don't drink and send in Ride Reports!

Listen, any of you 'Buell Ride' guys from yesterday who would like to attend spirited Sunday Rides with the Tampa Crashers Internet List group, please drop me a line. It will be a pleasure to have you join our List. We are a mature group that likes to ride the best roads in west central Florida, but not crash or get tickets.

Best wishes,
Dave

That was a fun ride. Almost didn't make it. I found my rear tire was flat when I went to get my bike. I found the leak, which appeared to be a tiny one...aired up and went anyway.

After breakfast, the tire was low again. Down to less than 20 pounds...aired it up again at the Chevron station and away we went again...after a few miles I had to ease way up because it was handling strangely...when I got back home it was down to less than 10 pounds, the leak had opened up more. The tire was HOT and looked a bit chewed up.

Anyway, it was a real pleasure to ride with all of you, look forward to doing it again soon (after I replace the tire).

Till then,,,,SEEYA!!!

WOW! We almost have a news crew. Thanks Dave, for all the script, and Mike our cinematographer for the great video (as usual)and pics.

Really like the after ride reports. Nice to know when everyone enjoys the ride. Ya know, lead can be a lot of pressure.....NOT

Overall, it was a great ride. Had a good riding group. Seemed everyone paid attention to the rider following them. We didn’t lose anyone, no one ran off the road to pick oranges, and no tickets were passed out.
Seems like Mike and me had a miscommunication with the thumbs up. Sorry Mike, we need better hand signals, or I need better glasses.

Tim, we have a long time tradition on the Tampa Crasher List of writing Ride Reports. It's a great way of re-living the Sunday Ride experience for several days after the event.

Here's a report posted by Guzzi/Ully Steve:

Dave, that was a great re-cap of the first half of the ride. After breakfast we headed north taking the back way out of San Antonio. We picked up 577 to St. Joe and then up to Bayhead. North some more on Culbreath to Powell and then over to Spring Lake Road. Then a little south to ride Trilby road. Tim led us to Webster but he took 471. Maybe he doesn't know 478A is a way nicer ride. In Center Hill Tim ceded the lead to me. Is this Tim's edge of the earth? Somewhere, I think in Center Hill, Craig peeled off. We are losing riders fast. From the original 11 we are now down to 6. I led the group down Youth Camp Rd., a short hop on 27, and then O'Brien. Then 19 south through Groveland and Empire Church Rd. We rode Erie Rd, Laws Rd, and Florida Boy's Ranch. I think Tim peeled off after Erie Rd to head home. Back down 33 to Erie Rd where we took a short break to discuss the plan. That's where Harry decided to head for home. Now we are down to 4. Claude, Zane, Gary and I hit Green Pond and then Rock Ridge to 98. Gary skipped Green Pond and went straight when we turned right. Must have got bored with our Florida roads after spending a lot of time in north Georgia. We did a quick loop on Sherice ( Sp? ). Then Claude and Zane headed south and I went in a northerly direction towards home.
No cops, no rain, 320 miles, and home before 3.
Steve

Here's another Crasher List Ride Report from Buell Claude (arguably the best Sunday Ride reporter in our group):

"I said I would ride to Lakeland to meet with the Crashers this Sunday and I did, and what a delight it was.

After sleep-riding the super slab, I wake-up at the BP in Lakeland, with hand on fuel pump giving the Muel a drink. I notice from a distance a single bike in the parking lot of the H-D dealership, couldn't see the kind of bike it was as it was hidden from my sight by a small tree as I pumped the elixir of life into the Muel. Arriving at my final destination, the dealership, were the two riders I had the pleasure of riding with the last time I journeyed this way, C14Tim and Buell Harry. Last time we road together I had the pleasure of doing a comparison test with Harry's XB12, an eye opening experience to say the least.
Moments later, the camera man arrives, C14Mike. From my first experience riding with this man, I could tell I was with good company. Anyone who can flick a C14 within millimeters of grounding his saddlebags carrying a smooth line around the corner on Gobbler, is someone who I would be very comfortable drafting, if I could keep up that is, he!he! Mike's riding style impressed me, and I knew I was going to have big fun riding with them.

I decided to get a java break from the Waffle House next door, as I was about to enter, I herd a shriek coming from the BP across the highway, the Crashers have arrived, better late than not at all eh!

I head back with coffee in hand to the round table where decisions were being made as to which direction this adventure would take. Immersed in conversation, I did not notice who was riding in and on what steeds they had chosen from their stables.

I was kinda hoping that Craig would bring his Connie, he instead had some hooliganism in mind and decided to bring the triple.

UlissisSteve, SVGary on a street fighter, TLSteve and the Bogawan himself, traveling beyond his realm I kid you not! had rejuvenated himself and lost all his facial hair, Hmmm! something is aria, as I am checking out the rides I notice a black beauty parked away from the rest of the bikes, it stood out like a sore thumb, I spotted the raised clip-ons, this looks like something Bogus would do and sure enough, it was his steed. Very nice Dave congrats. on the ride. A very nice pleasing to the eye ride, small, great lines and the power has to be there or you wouldn't have anything to do with it.
Buel Jim I have not ridden with before, had some nice additions to his ride, great idea on curving the excess oil vapor to the intake, makes for cleaner immissions, lastly, a couple on a white Buell.

The plan was made and we were off. A very nice path was taken to get out of town, lots of connected twisted asphalt with little or no traffic, and the pace was delightful.

It's kinda late or should I say early morning, got's to get some rest.

more to come....."

More from Buell Claude, Master of the Sunday Ride & Ride Report:

"On our way out of Lakeland on one of the back roads we were split up as the pace quickened, the couple on the white Buell never overtook the pick-up and were never seen again. I had been following them since we left the dealership and it seemed to me that this ride was going to be more than they could handle as they were squaring sweeping corners. pillion-ing is not recommended on most of these kind of rides. I was missing out on the fun up ahead so I passed them before we reached the pick-up.

I always like to know who I ride with, hence the back of the pack, or caboose is the best place to be. I soon saw to my delight that this group of hooligans were the kind of riders that make the Sunday riding experience exciting and adrenalin rich. The pace Tim took was perfect in every way, very fast and lively together with a big safety consideration. The law would have blessed us in some areas, not so much in others, he!he!

The ride through Brooksville and Trilby was none stop full of twisted tarmac and some good scenery.
Tim our tour guide, leads the group to a hole in the wall breakfast in San Antonio, I have never been there before, the service was great and I am sure everyone enjoyed their meals.
It was still early but being so far from his domain, Bogus Dave bid us a good day and headed home. Damm didn't even get to see one of his famous power wheelies, maybe next time. I am sure the break-in process will be complete by then. It's alway a good day when you can pry the Bogawan away from his rural route to enjoy himself with some of his favorite hooligans. Nice bike Bogie, I think it is the best looking one in your stable. Till we meet at the Jacaranda with the Notorious RickMiester and his calm cool and collected side kick SafetyBill, who will eat with us all to his delight, he!he! I am willing to bet you are a great cook too!

After breakfast, we lost half the pack and there were only C14Tim BuellHarry SVGary TLZane UlissisSteve and myself left to enjoy the afternoon. We headed towards Webster, where the word fun took a whole new meaning. Pace picked up a tad with UlissisSteve at the helm. I had no idea some of these roads were out here. Steve really did a good job of connecting these roads.
Can't remember the name of the road, but I did let Steve know how much I enjoyed the baby smooth blacktop meandering through the palms with nothing but sweeping corners and no sand, that was a hoot at 60-70! You cant find that kind of road just anywhere, the bonus was it seamed to be at least three lane wide!

The group reaches a T in the road, I was unsure where we were, Tim decides to call it a day, thanks Tim for taking us out of Lakeland on some of the best back roads I have been on.
Steve takes us through the road where the suicide planks used to be, it is a little rougher than I remember it being, but still loads of fun when you are riding with some excellent riders.
A canopy of trees covered both sides of the winding ro ad, cooled things down a little, and in places, dew and moisture still settled on the edges of the road, some sand to be found. In one particular corner, I was not expecting both hazards to be there in a mix!, I found myself entering the corner a little to quickly and went a little wide right into the muck, which Zane let me know later, showered him, he must have been right behind me, soree brotha! he!he! it was not deliberate. That bastid Steve who looks so smooth as he takes those sharp corners, making me think the corner was not a right angle, spooked my concentration, he!he!
More sand was found all over the road in places and in one particular corner which may have been the highlight of the adventure for me. Was when Steve was leading Gary was close behind and I was just entering the corner when I saw Gary drift all the way to the outside of the left-hander, missing the clean spot of tarmac in the middle and gunning his SV, his back tire roostering a tail of sand as his back tire moved side to side, creating a power wheelie, when his rear tire met the end of the sand, it gave me a great feeling to see him holding his front wheel off the ground for a long time it seemed, man that looked so good I only wish I had the balls to do it. Thanks for that Gary.

We say good by to Harry at some point, thanks for the camaraderie, you have a sharp looking bike. I wish I owned it, he!he!

We are down to 4 hooligans, SVGary is next to depart, had fun brotha!

Then Steve drops us off at a familiar place to me, great ride Steve, can't wait til the next one.

Zane mentions a watering hole we once went to, it sounded good to me, so we head to Bradenton through Sun City Center. Man was I parched when we arrived, I could have scolled the beer, but changed my mind at $4. a bottle. he!he! Good riding with you Zane and thanks for inviting me.

Mileage on the Pirelli Angels 1,700 to date, not bad for three Sunday rides. Total mileage this Sunday 420. Still looks like new, you guyz are making a believer out of me."

I got around to pulling the rear wheel off my bike to get the leak in the tire fixed...I found enough damage to the tire to decide to trash it and install a new one...This was the second Q2 I had issues with punctures.

I decided to try the old tried and proven Power Pilot in leu of dual or triple compound tires. (Have a set of PP's on my 'Tard) Anyway, a few key stabs and two days later I get my new tire from Jake Wilson...A little wresting around and the new tire is installed. Being a freak about maintenance, I found the rear wheel bearings a bit notchy (common on Buells) so I installed a new set of bearings.

Replaced the broken/missing right front turnsignal that had been vandalized at a local Suzuki shop while I was inside looking at a GSXR 750...Luckily I had a spare one....and just so I don't get caught in the future needing another one...I went to the Harley shop and bought a spare ($15.00 woohooo!!)

Saturday, before it rained I took a couple of short hops with cool down time in between to get a couple of heat cycles in the tire...didn't push it at all, but noticed right away the bike had much better turn-in and tracked really well.

Went back to the shop and went over the bike with torque wrench and loctite, cleaned her up and put her to bed.

Sunday morning, I arose at the crack of dawn and found no rain at all on the radar (anywhere near me) so I got the bike out and went for a ride...headed up to my favorite area around Spring Lake and took a bunch of the "new" roads we rode on last week.

My intention was to go put in a sold run up Istachatta after a careful recon pass. Unfortunately before I could make it that far, it began to sprinkle, so I headed back towards home...no rain there so I enjoyed runs down Old Dade City Road, and closer to home Fussell and Old Polk City Road, Lake Alfred Road, Cass Road and then back around through Lake Lowery Road (Sandy, Sandy, Sandy)...down to West Lake Hamilton Road and Country Club Road, across town and down Crystal Beach Road, then back around to my shop.

The tire worked very well indeed with no suprises or wierd tricks even at full lean.

Lets go ride again soon.

I have officially renamed my bike...She was formerly named "Jezebel"....She is now
known as "Red Biatch the Nail Magnet".

The plug I put in the tire leaks...but I found that my regular tire store can change and repair motorcycle tires (they don't sell 'em though)...so the almost new tire is getting the patch today.
