Howling or not, they can go pound sand. If it falls within the rule book, then there isn't anything to whine about. Specs are quite clearly stated as to what is and is not allowed. I hope they really kick some a$$ next weekend.

>>>Specs are quite clearly stated as to what is and is not allowed.

The 1190RS . . . which, under prior rules would have been racing all season, has been subjected to the most stringent interpretation possible of the rules in an effort to thwart and potential claims.

Anyone wanting to bitch or complain that has waited this long or waits until post-race has pretty much eroded their own credibility wouldn't you agree?

If there is nothing wrong with it this Tuesday . . . hard to believe there will be next Tuesday.

The key is to be prepared, focused and intense. The result will follow and the bike will evolve.

I'm going in with no expectation than being present to celebrate and observe the next step forward in the progress of Erik Buell, The Elves and Erik Buell Racing.

If there are claims of a cheater bike, then someone needs to call KawYamHonda out on not selling OEM race bike parts like Erik Buell Racing is.

Let's not start on the AMA cheater rule crap again, we got enough of that back in Danny's Buell days. The bike is and will continue to be legal for the class. So let's keep the thread of how we all think it will do once it actually gets raced here in the US in AMA S/B

Race by race the 1125RR runs in and out of the top 10 and is currently 10th in the season standings. I also think its not a done deal for a guaranteed podium finish this season. However having said that Qualifying is another deal, Goeff has some good seat time on the bike and I think he could have a good shot at one or even two front row starts this year. I think the bike will be competive  and continue to run in the top ten and could very well have a race or two in the top five and I would expect next year to be even better.

To be clear:
Personally, I hope Geoff laps the field next week! All I'm saying is that those on this site will be cheering to the end. However, 1st race out of the box - rules compliant or not - if the 1190 is on the podium that I'd bet (yes Court) there would be a call from the other teams for an 'adjustment' to the current rules. If nothing else, a weight penalty.

The 1190 already has a weight penalty and ballast onboard.

I think it would be a fitting debut for the bike to place on the podium, first time out.

Given the choice, though, I'm sure the Elves will choose a full race worth of data acquisition and a lower finish over a DNF because of pushing too hard.

Baby steps, guys and gals. I know there's been prep work done but don't know how much...and "track development time", as any racer will tell you, is NOT the same as race experience.

Time will tell. I'll be stuck at work all day, but should be someplace where, if I can find a feed, I'll watch as much as I can via interweb on my blackberry.

GO Erik Buell Racing!!

I think worrying about what will happen if Geoff is on the podium first time out is a bit like saying: "Damn it. I'm afraid I'm going to win the lottery and then I'll have to pay all those taxes."

The cross-plane Yamaha has done great since it's debut but nobody has talked about penalizing it. The 1190RS is a production bike priced the same as a 1098R and racing at the same weight and displacement as the 1098R and KTM, so I don't see how anyone could (rationally) complain about it having any special advantages.

For the first time out, I'm less concerned with great finishes and just hoping that Geoff can at least match the performance of the 1125RR.

While I'm sure the 1190 is a better bike than the 1125, it may take a while just to get to the level of refinement and familiarity as the current bike. I'll breath a sigh of relief and start looking toward the future if Geoff can at least match what he's been doing on the 1125RR this coming weekend.

And not that I have to say this, I'm sure...but Court? Lots of photos please : ) (and wish Erik and Geoff and all the others good luck for me, if they can sit still long enough for you to say it!)

And on the off chance Jon shows up...shake his hand for me too : )

Have fun at the race. I'm jealous! If anyone knows whether/where there will be a web feed of the race, please let me know so I can dial in the blackberry...

If anyone is at the race taking photos, can you do me a favor and take a very close up shot of the brake rotor?

I'm particularly interested in seeing the "stack" of hardware supporting the rotor... so underlying washer, drive bushing, and washers and fastener in front of the rotor.

So, more of a picture of one of the fasteners from the "front" of the tire, as opposed to the usual 90-degree view we have seen so far.

as posted in the quickboard....

I'm calling the bleachers in turn 1 the Erik Buell Racing Zone.

You can see the chicane, keyhole, back straight and the beginning of the "S's" from there.

I should have my butt firmly planted there by the beginning of the race on Saturday

Hope so see some other Buellers there!!

From my post of July 3rd: "All agreed guys, and one last observation; won't it be nice to see a v-twin back in the AMA Superbike series AND with the H.P. and rider to be competitive. Only downside for me is, I wanted to see Erik Buell Racing kicking some red Italian butt. Harald Kitsch is doing that for Jens in Europe. Nice! Geoff came close several times being ahead of Larry Pegram on the 1125RR when Larry was on a Duc. YA! Mid-Ohio, here we come and the gloves are off!"

Well it looks like a KTM RC8R will be another twin competing in AMA SB racing with Chris Filmore aboard. I'm lovin' this a lot and hoping Erik and Geoff will dominate these twins dukeing it out against all the "big money" teams but I am glad to see the KTM in the mix also. Its going to be like a whole new season starting again. HOORAH!

If BMW's effort in WSBK is any indication...

There's a LOT more to winning professional SBK races than a fast bike and a great rider. Development is HUGE! The 1190 has some, but still a LONG way to go to approach the incredible development achieved by the top factory teams it will be competing against.

Ratbuell,
They sure aren't using that disk anymore.

Listed on the link above is Geoff Mays
Career Highlights for 2010

- Finished tenth in Race Two at both Infineon Raceway and Road American in National Guard American SuperBike competition. Finished in seventh place in the Daytona 200. and also competed in Daytona SportBike at the Road Atlanta round.

I'm not trying to put anyone down by any means but Erik needs to throw some big money down to get a big name rider on the 1190 if we want to see any results. Blake Young would be a great start but id like to see Jd Beach on it.

Just my thoughts I hope i'm wrong and Geoff tears the class up o it but I don't think that will happen.

Blake - that's why I posted the mounting instructions for the HARDWARE. Its the illustration that ships from Erik Buell Racing with every hardware kit.

I'm fully aware they've changed rotors. I'm betting the mounting system is either the same, or extremely similar.

And I didn't think I'd have to waste time photoshopping out the rotor.

Hey Russmannn you do realize that Geoff is still finishing in the same positions this year with the "slower" bike. To me that says allot about his abilities and talent. There has been a whole lot of negativity around here lately regarding the 1190 and Erik Buell Racing. I understand that we are all very excited about the debut of the new bike and that there are some growing pains with building a Brand New company that in my opinion really has no actual reason to support the previous models other than the huge heart that we all know Erik and the Elves have. I for one am really enjoying the show and can't wait to see what happens.

Maybe Erik sees a little of himself in Geoff and is grooming him to take Erik Buell Racing into the future.

200 year plan

Just a thought...

Danny had done plenty with inferior equipment. I think he took a 3rd in the Daytona 200 one year on a privateer GSXR600.

Let's not make a big deal of this, I'm just trying to see what I might be doing wrong in my own assemblies.

What I'm after is to see the relationship between the fastener and the belleville washer under it.

I want to see -- on a rotor I know has been installed correctly -- how crushed that thing is.

I'm surprised at the various deltas I'm seeing among my own wheels. Some pretty loose, some quite tight.

Jdugger - "various deltas I'm seeing among my own wheels. Some pretty loose, some quite tight."

Do you die a new bolt before it is used?

Does than mean rotor breakin is a series of heat, stress and retorque cycles?

> Do you die a new bolt before it is used?

No.

> Does than mean rotor breakin is a series of heat, stress and retorque cycles?

Not to my knowledge. I re-use fasteners here as I have custom machined Ti ones. A line of blue down the threads and 25ft-lb has always held tight.

What I am experiencing (I believe) is tolerance and wear problems with the wheels themselves. So, I'm looking to codify the patterns and measurements I need to make to *know* how to do it right each time, instead of guess and sometimes get it right, and sometimes have to change up parts.

Of course, I'll share that when I know it.

Why not just measure the run-out at each mounting boss, and employ custom thickness copper shim-washers accordingly? Seems simple enough. If it were me, I'd look into machining to true them up, a more permanent resolution. Seems pretty simple. What am I missing?
