So, just go the new cluster put on my '08 cause of a slipped needle. Love having the voltage readout there, and the gear indicator. What I don't like is knowing that my fuel level sensor is bad and needs replaced. When riding around the low fuel light came on, so stopped and filled her up. When I took off, I noticed that it stayed on for about 15 minutes before it turned off for about a minute before coming back on and staying on for another 10 miles. This tank only has about 50 miles on it and the low fuel light has gone on and off over 10 times. I can't take it to the dealership cause they will put the parts on order, and by the time they get them, the bike will be back in Iowa where it's going to stay until I move back there in november. I'll probably take it to zylstra's in Ames when I ride it home and have it worked on there. It's just going to piss me off having that low fuel counter keep switching from trip 1 to my odometer, since now I'm going to have to rely on miles on the tank for fill ups. Oh well, and least I know when I'll hit redline now. |

Was the cluster new or used? |

Brand new cluster, waited almost 3 months for them to get it in. Even saw them take the protective plastic off the faceplate. |

Thats what I figured, just wanted to confirm. Being a new cluster it should have the newest software on it, so you know its not the cluster due to a software bug making it go wonky like some 09s. |

I'm pretty sure it is the fuel pump cause with the old cluster I would always get the low fuel light when the bike wasn't warmed up, but I never got the CEL so I figured it was just the cluster reading the info wrong. But since the new cluster is going crazy, I'm guessing the info the sensor is sending is craziness |

Having the same issue with my bike right now. Low fuel light refuses to shut off, throws Low Fuel Sys Error codes (regularly) and the occasional Low Fuel Press Sys Error codes (maybe once every couple of weeks). I hate riding with the Check Engine Light on almost all the time... Been waiting 6.5 weeks for a new cluster right now. I'm guessing that won't fix the problem, in which case it will be another 6-9 weeks for a new fuel pump/sending unit. And to boot, my rev. C clutch cover just blew the seals this weekend after 3000 km (installed 6.5 weeks ago), of course, 1 week before my scheduled vacation to the Dragon! ARGH! If you guys with LFL/CEL problems want to try a solution, I have an idea. The sensor is on pins A & D on the #86 connector on the crossbar of the subframe, it's a 4-pin black connector. Spec on the sensor is 800-1400 Ohms IIRC, the sensor drifts to the high side, mine measured 2200 Ohms when bad If you stick a small wire in the sockets of A&D and connect a 0-2k pot(in parallel with the sensor now) you should be able to trim the resistance back down to spec. That will cancel the LFL signal and bring the total resistance back into spec, killing the CEL. Using very small wire - 28-30 Ga. reconnect the connector with the wires sticking out. Insulate, connecting each wire to the ends of the potentiometer(variable resistor). R(total) = R1*R2/R1+R2 Way easier and cheaper than a new fuel pump, if it works... My low fuel light comes and goes...any time it feels like it....for over 22,000 miles now..! Normally in the morning, sometimes after it's been sitting the day (daily driver) at work or home. Never (so far) during a drive anywhere. I just consider it another Buell quirk and keep on going. Mike |

I got another 3 years on my warranty and if the permanent fix to this problem is getting the entire fuel pump replaced, i'm happy to have it done at the price of free. I'm so glad i got that extended warranty, it has almost paid for itself. So far: 2 rear turn signals, clutch weep and instrument cluster. Add the $260 fuel pump with the who knows how many hours to replace it at $75/hour and i've saved some. Just wish i could have the fuel pump taken care of right now instead of a few months from now. |

Zac4Mac -- appreciate the instructions... but, it's under warranty until November, and I can deal with it until I get the new cluster... That is, if I have the bike for that long... it's starting to get old, waiting for parts, etc etc etc... Have a guy who really wants an American sport bike - looking at a different 1125r over the next couple of days, and then at mine. |

Loretta's been out of warranty over a year now. Money spent on tires, shims, filters and oil. I've done my own services from day one and she runs great. Last warranty work(dealer - High Country) was a new fuel pump for the LFL/CEL and 2 months later, again, for a failing pump. All good since. I love this bike and hope to keep it a looooong time. Z |
