I recently had my CR in the shop due to a leaky water pump at about 6000 miles under warranty. At 600 miles I switched to synthetic oil, used synthetic oil at 3600 miles change as well, and was getting ready to do another oil change and then realized they had to change the oil when replacing the water pump. They didn't ask me what oil I used, they just threw in conventional. This is the first new vehicle I have ever owned. It's my baby. I'm super anal about it. So I'm not sure if I should bitch to the dealership about putting the wrong oil in or not. I know that Buell only recommends changing the oil every 6200 miles. In that case the oil had less that half of its life gone. So if the water pump didn't die, then I still would have had synthetic oil in it. Should I try and make them change my oil right away with synthetic, or just let it be and be happy with a free oil change? |

*shrug* They probably put Syn3 in, which isn't a terrible oil, but isn't a great oil. If they put in dino 20W50, yeah, bitch - but if they put Syn3 in, that's the "factory recommended oil" for it. Just change the oil yourself if you're really upset about it, or run Syn3 until the next change. |

They used 20W50. Not happy. The reason I noticed they changed the oil was because it wasn't running as smooth. |

If you can document that a) you had Syn3 in it, and b) they put 20w50 in it...yes, get them to change it out for you. They're a dealer. They will NOT put Amsoil or Mobil 1 or any other syn in it. It's either 20w50, or Syn3. |

Go back and have them put the recommended oil in. The book says to run Syn3, so thats what they shouldve put in. It is possible it was an innocent mistake, but still yet, it needs to be addressed. Dont be a jackass to them and Im sure they'll replace it. |
