Remember when you're comparing dB levels, a 10 dB increase is DOUBLE the loudness. I have the Barker — and admittedly haven't heard any other pipe on the 1125 other than OEM — and without the quiet core I think it's just about perfect as far as tone and loudness. Maybe a wee bit on the "a touch too loud" scale, but not obnoxious in the least. ... I have a Race Spirits dual can slip on. I love mine, sounds deep and kind of loud, but at highway speeds it doesn't kill me that its so loud. It's a bit pricey, but doesn't ever need to be repacked. It uses chambers instead of packing which was one of the main reasons I decided to pay the extra money. I use an Erik Buell Racing race ECM. It works great. |

I am quick to admit, my FMF full system is ridiculously loud. I remember someone from Erik Buell Racing saying the the full system is no louder than the slip on, but I would be surprised if that were true. I have not seen a slip on yet to compare. Even with good earplugs, I find mine uncomfortably loud at certain RPM's, notably lower revs and city street speeds. The noise literally penetrates my earplugs at certain frequencies. I do wear earplugs around jet engines, but the exhaust noise of the bike penetrates the earplugs in a way jet engines don't. It is a little nuts. It hits a frequency at highway speeds that is less irritating. I guess at repack time, I will try to work out a db killer. I really don't want to go back to stock if I can avoid it. |

I didn't say loud pipes save lives. I said I want my bike to be louder. My first bike was a Sporster with Vance and Hines strait shots. When I split lanes on that bike the cagers parted like the Red Sea. On the buell no one notices me, its just too quiet. I always drive like they never see me, I'm not a moron. I love Vtwins and I feel like I hear the motor over the exhaust on the CR and I want to change that. Ratgin, If you would like to be proven wrong why don't you ride with me and we can split lanes. I will take my brothers sporty with Vance and Hines shortshots, and then I want to hear you tell me that cars won't hear us because the sound is directed out the back. I don't need a lecture on why I shouldn't get an exhaust, I didn't think I would get that on here. And to everyone that actually answered my questions, thank you. |

Oh Yeah! FMF, Carbon fiber, so far no cracking. Repacked twice, about at 4,000 and 3,000 miles, last time just needed a touch in the end and fluff it in with a thin stick for better core contact. Very easy to do, wear a dust mask and gloves. |

> I don't need a lecture on why I shouldn't get an exhaust, > I didn't think I would get that on here. You have a national audience and a lot of different regional inputs into the comments you see here. There's a number of us that live in dense downtown areas with 10,000+ residents per square mile where noisy bikes really are inappropriate. It echos off the buildings, generally makes life miserable for everyone, etc. And, there's a whole bunch of guys that damn near have a section to themselves and it truly does not matter at all. Toss some salt on it and don't sweat it. |

Dk and I are around the same area. The 91 freeway is brutal. Luckily most of the time the High beam flasher does the trick. I fall under the category that loud exhausts do help. I am looking for a pipe for the 08. FMF factory is right down the street from my work. The only thing with their pipe is it goes through packing way too quick. I might go with Barker or HMF. Remus torque hammer free spirits saron all of the above dont have to be repacked. maybe drummer. I heard the keda's have a long interval for packing. My packing intervals were strictly to keep it as quiet as possible, and were in no way required for the integrity or performance of the muffler. As I found both times I opened her up. |

No change in tone with my Drummer in 2 years. No way to repack it without cutting it open. |
