here before too long im gonna rip the cr apart for valve service and other various things that will be easier when its apart. i was wondering if anybody knew of some good quality lightwieght stick on heat shield. im looking for enough to do the entire inside of the frame, airbox, and seat, and maybe some header wrap too. im a little tired of cooking myself in the 100+ temps we have had here lately. |

Erik Buell Racing's anonymous was quoted as saying this company had the best product. http://www.aerogel.com/ Get the headers ceramic coated too |

Al @ American sport bike sells thermo shielding. I'm gonna install it when I take my bike apart for the valve check here in a few months. |

Do you know which one they use? 200*C enough? Pyrogel 2250 looks promising if that's enough thermal protection? Wonder if it's adhesive backed or how to install? I think my money would be better spent on E BR ECM to lower temps and improve running, but would like to do this at my 12k service either way (or similar). any other suggestions? |

Aerogel is good stuff. For reference, that's what the inside frame heat shield installed on MY09+ is. I'm sorry but I can't recall which type of Aerogel it was. If I had to guess, I'd say it was the Pyrogel 6650, but that's because the color and texture rings a bell, not the name. Jason |

i used 2" muffler wrap coated on both sides with high temp white silicone for kitchen use. i cut the muffler wrap in strips to fit each area, vertically, coated both sides with silicone, stuck in place, then did the next strip. i used a paint stir stick to spread the silicone thin. let dry overnight and reassembled the next day. made a big difference and 1.5 years later-no issues. next will be an exhaust coating. tim |

I am sure they will sell to you or refer you to someone. The 6650 looks pretty good to me. |

Why would you think something seec'd for aerospace would be better than something spec'd for automotive and other transportation? Looking at the chart, I'd pick XT or XTF, at 10mm. Z I mean you could be paying a 500% premium for something that doesn't outgas at zero atmospheres... Not important to an earthbound motorcycle... (Message edited by zac4mac on June 23, 2011) |

Zac - see that's where you are limiting yourself - earthbound... lol |

actually what draws me towards the 6650 is it's weight vs the XT. Spec sheets show the 2250 and XT at about 10-11lbs square foot. vs 7'ish for the 6650. found the XT online, but no 6650 yet. |
