If I'm not mistaken, raising the idle rpm decreases the engine braking.

Bad,

Not really. The setting is the IAC, or Idle Air Control. If the clutch switch is connected, when the lever is pulled in the bike will return to idle programming, so raising it won't necessarily help much.

BTW, disconnecting the clutch switch will also help keep revs up as you are clutching downshifts. I recommend it.

JD,"BTW, disconnecting the clutch switch will also help keep revs up as you are clutching downshifts. I recommend it." That sounds interesting. Can you elaborate a bit on the advantage?

The bike raises the idle a bit when you have the clutch released. Disconnecting the switch will make it think the clutch is still released and maintain the higher idle, and as result will slow the rate the RPMs drop when you do squeeze the clutch.

I personally don't like it due to my riding habits, but I can understand its usefulness.

If you disconnect the clutch switch the bike assumes it's in gear. So, if you run up the speed in first gear and then pull in the clutch lever and coast to a stop, your bike will slowly read 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...

As long as the bike is in gear, the indicator is accurate.

The switch is a little positive locking connector at the clutch MC. It's easy to pull, test, and then replace if you don't like it.

You will notice it because the 'idle' will be higher the moment you click into 1st.

so higher like the higher when you release the clutch in first but aren't opening the throttle? or higher than that?

Higher like the higher when you release the clutch.

That's the IAC programming kicking in there, and pulling the clutch switch wires makes the ECM think the clutch lever is out.

On my race bike, it's 2500-3000 RPM. On a stocker, it's significantly lower, but still above idle.

cool should be close to what i am looking for then.

i really need to get to jennings............

have my suit need some track tires and want the ECM before i go. from what you've said and what so many others have said having the smoothness of the race ecm should help reduce distractions. the added powah for my lard ass should be good too

I bought the race ECM to support a lighter weight exhaust for racing and trackdays. The OEM map with most of the exhaust systems available for this bike just isn't right.

I'm not sure if I ever noticed an issue with smoothness, since most of the complaints about the stock fueling were for cracked throttle at low RPM conditions. I never ran mine that way on track.

The fact I can program the device and get motor/bike behavior tuned to my preferences and skill level as a rider is a huge plus. I'm very pleased with the Race ECM and consider it a good use of money for these bikes.

... but on the street, I actually run the stock one along with stock exhaust.

well i no longer have a stock exhaust. however if someone does i could use the quiet i cut mine up and damn that thing is just loud. i'd like a unmodded oe exhaust again.

the part throttle cruising on the street is nasty.

haven't tracked it yet but from what i have read here the ebr ecm helps through and through so figured i couldn't go wrong there.

> the part throttle cruising on the street is nasty.

Keep the revs up and it's not an issue. I'd not been on the street in almost two years until this weekend, but went up to AR with some buddies.

In town, I found myself in 1st gear a lot. Kept there, you can run about 35mph with the revs in the middle of the motor's range and good smooth power and operation, even in totally stock trim.

unplugged clutch switch idle was way high engine braking was down some but i'd like it all gone.

you wouldn't happen to have an unmolested oe pipe floating around would you J?

So, it did improve it, but not as much as you want? Is that what I read?

If you want what I have, order up a race ECM, ask for an 1800 RPM idle, the most generous IAC programming possible, and pull your clutch switch.

> you wouldn't happen to have an unmolested oe pipe floating around would you J?

I do.

Make an offer. You might also find it effective to offer a trade to someone who wants your race can.

I hear you on the loud. I don't like loud exhausts on street-legal bikes; I get embarrassed by the racket.

I'm actually tired of loud on the race bike, too; but, there it's worth the weight loss, power gain, and it's obviously far more accepted. The 1125r w/ race exhaust is ridiculously loud.

yes it did improve, ie reduced engine braking a small amount. the idle on start up went waaaaayy high like 3k high. so because i leave for work at 5am i had to plug it back in for now. that's another reason i am looking to replace my can with factory again.

what i've got now is a factory can i have hacked up and had welded back together. even if i still retained all the pieces i doubt it would be 'fixable' thus i will pm you

It will idle normally if you are in neutral.
